Please, only those who have constructive legit answers please because I am stressed out and dont want to deal with sarcasism or wisecracks. I just need someone to talk to. I work in a fast food restaurant which pays me pretty well no matter what stereotypes say. As a matter of fact, I am one of the highest paid closers close to 8 bucks an hour and due for another raise soon. Anyways......this week my hours have been cut to about 20 to 24 hours a week because our labor is high, I make more than most others and they need to cut back because we have too many new kids hired. I dont know what to do having no car and jobs are almost impossible to get right now. One of the managers (a good friend) said as soon as the kids go back to school my hours will improove so just be patient. I am one of the best closers they have. Can you offer some advice. Maybe you have had a similar situation.

That really is tough.

Your manager is probably right, but that leaves you all month to struggle.

Is there another food place you can go to and work part time for? Also, can you talk to your manager about picking up hours if people don't show up?

Finally, do what you can to become a supervisor or shift manager at your store - you are less likely to get your hours cut.

(You might look at listing things on ebay to sell for other people or something to help supplement your income. Obviously you know how to get online already! See if there are good items on Craigslist that you can pick up and sell!)

Best of luck & keep working hard! You can really get places!

You will just have to sit tight for a month until the kids go back to school. You could try to get another job but it sounds like you know what the going rate is.

Well, school starts in a couple weeks, so maybe you should hang in there until then. But if labor rates are out of line, it's not uncommon for higher paid people to have their hours cut.

Good luck.

i work in retail and it seems that the people who's hours get cut are people they are slowly trying to fire. but it doesn't seem so in your case. i know when i got hired a lot of peoples' hours were cut because we had so many new hires. your company could also be on a budget cut right now. ours is.
but they are also trying out the new employees im sure because they want to see who they can and want to keep because as you know. half the people that get hired are not gonna work worth a crap.

i hope that helps ease your stress!

Seek other opportunities. If you enjoy food service, try an upscale restaurant where the menu prices are higher and you can garner good tips.
