"There is no evidence that sitting close to the television will damage your eyes. If this were true, office workers that sit 8 hours a day 17 inches from their computer screens, would all be blind. Sit wherever you are most comfortable when watching TV. "

Watching a television or computer screen does put strain on your eyes and can cause them to feel dry, irritated and tired. These effects are temporary and with resting your eyes and artificial tears these symptoms can be improved.
There is no permanent damage caused to your eyesight by TV/computer use.
Many people have the misconception that these activities cause vision to worsen.... I think that is because it is normal for vision to change over time and many people try to blame it on watching screens too much! The truth if your vision changes it would happen regardless of how you are using your eyes.

Yes, because T.V.=Computer. I use to play on my laptop a lot, so my prescription doubled, and if i continue watching T.V., and going on my laptop, by the time I'm 18, I will be blind. Your doctor is right, but if you want to go on the computer, take a break every hour for at least 15 minutes. And, for the friend thing, my prescription isn't fine cat. It's horrible. It doubled, and is now only getting better, because I cut down 1/2 of the time I go on, and now I rarely watch T.V.

Ps, and to people who say it has no permanent damage, it does. I now have to use 3.5 contacts, and glasses ontop to try and save my vision (even though it is to late, they are trying to stop it from getting worse.) all because of playing on my laptop. Before middle school, I didn't have a laptop/computer, and I did not watch T.V. I had near perfect vision until i started to. Oh, and the changes might be seen in as little as 6 months. It only took me 6 months, until my vision was that damaged. (Well, I started noticing a month after my exam)

It's still fine until... they go in the next year, and it's a little worse. Then the year after that, it's a little worse than before...

Listen to your eye doctor - not your friends without degrees in medicinal practices.

No, it's not a myth. Listen to your eye doctor; he/she knows a LOT more than your friends.
