What are some of the things that people with large families cook? This morning for breakfast we went through 2 dozen eggs, 2 pounds of bacon 1 gallon of milk, 1 gallon of juice, a loaf of bread and a huge pot of grits. For lunch I fixed 24 turkey and cheesse sandwiches, lemonade, and a watermelon. For dinner we are going to Golden Corral. I am feeding my family (8 people), my mother in law and my 2 sister in laws with their 5 teenage boys. They will be staying with us until next Wednesday. My husband is at work and missing on all of the fun. Tomorrow is dinner at my home. I need ideas.....

My mother in law and sister in law just went to the store. They said my pots were not big enough. They are going to cook beans, rice and some fish for dinner tonight. They don't want to eat out.... I think it is very sweet of them...

I would ask my mil and my 2 sils to provide recipes and make the meal, with your assistance. I'm sure each of them can come up with a good recipe.

Do you have a big pot?

This is TX Tacos

A handful of tortilla chips (3-4 bags)
A ladle of chili (recipe below)
1/4 c monterrey jack cheese or cheddar (3-4 lbs already grated)
1 handful of lettuce (1 head shredded)
1/4c tomatoes fresh, diced into big pieces
Large tablespoon sour cream (3-16 oz containers)

4 lbs meat any combination ground beef, turkey or chicken or mix them up.
6 large cans of stewed tomatoes
4 large cans tomato sauce
2 small cans tomato paste
4 pkgs McCormick Chili Seasoning, Mild or Original
4 cans dark red kidney beans, drained & rinsed.
Last minute (optional) 1 c unsweetened cocoa (it helps the bitterness of tomatoes)
If you have any real tomatoes, my husband loves when I make it with fresh instead of canned.

Okay, so you brown the meat any way you like, salt & pepper it. (I do it in the microwave.) I cook it in my slow cooker, but I realize you may not have enough room for that. Dump all the chili ingredients in except cocoa. Bring it to a simmer and stir often to keep from burning bottom. It's done as soon as everything is warm, but I like to let the spices marinate a little more than that.

If you have any trouble, call me. 972 235-6620.

Other ideas are hot dogs & hamburgers (do you have a grill?). My family loves that. Or cook 3 or 4 chuck roasts. I can give you a recipe for this if you want, but someone there may already have it. For lunch, buy several of the pizza breads (Central Market's is great), buy canned pizza sauce to go with it, cheese (Motzarella, provolone, parmesan), italian sausage (Owen's), pepperoni, any kind of veggies you want, ham cubes, etc. It's important that you put the bread down first, then sauce, then cheese, then toppings.

The trick is to get your oven heated 500-550 degrees. Put the pizza right on the rack and cook until everything looks melted and the crust hasn't burnt.

I serve a caesar salad and garlic bread.

Have fun! I love a party! I love to cook for a crowd! (At church I cooked for 500+).

Go to Sam's or any wholesale club. Breakfast can be muffins and fruit. They have pancakes and waffles in a institution size bag as well as breakfast meats. Lunch can be lasagna and a huge salad. Dinner can be hotdogs and hamburgers that will take no time on the grill and serve that with some chips and some kool-aid. if anyone complains, tell them it will make a turd and drink some water if they're still hungry.

For breakfast. French toast! Get two frying pans going or a big electric griddle. You can keep them warm in a foil covered pan @200degrees F. while you keep making some. You can make them fancy or plain by sprinkling on powdered sugar, putting vanilla in the egg/milk mixture or even by offering fruit toppings. For lunch what about spaghetti or macaroni and cheese and hot dogs. You can make a fixin' bar with chili, cheese, etc. so the adults think it's fun. For dinner. lasagna or spaghetti with lots of garlic bread or just bread and butter or that good spreadable cheese. Good luck. :-)

First of all, you are going to wear yourself out with all the cooking, not to mention the wallet. Try just putting out cereal for breakfasts, and maybe toast, or muffins, and juice. For lunches, just have some coldcuts for making sandwiches, then at night have a BBQ. There is no reason why everyone can't pitch in. Ask them what they like

That's a lot of hungry people to feed! Might I suggest pasta? A nice pan of lasagne or plate of spaghetti and meatballs is filling, yummy and easy to prepare. Since teenage boys are bottomless pits when it comes to eating, pasta is an economical way to fill them up. Here are some other ideas:

1. Smothered baked porkchops: Purchase some of the Maxi Packs of porkchops (usually 12 to a package). Season them with salt and pepper and brown in vegetable oil. Place them in baking dishes and top with sauteed yellow onion and a sauce of: 3 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup, 1 cup sour cream, 2 T dijon mustard, 2 cups milk, 1 T dill weed. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour. Serve with rice and green beans.
2. Meatloaf and Macaroni and Cheese: 3 lbs of ground beef, 3 packages of Liptons Garlic and Herb dry soup mix, 3 T Worcestershire sauce, 4 eggs, beaten, 1 T salt, 1 tsp pepper, 1 1/2 cups Italian Bread crumbs, 1 cup grated parmesan cheese. Mix the above and form into loaves in baking dishes. Top with: 1 28 oz can tomato sauce mixed with 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 T mustard, and 1 diced yellow onion. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. To packaged mac and cheese, add (per box) 3 oz cream cheese, 2 T sour cream, 1/2 tsp mustard. Spread in baking dish and top with breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese and dot with butter. Bake at 350 degrees until heated and cheese melts.
3. Breakfast: Cold Cereal, Orange juice, Cinnamon Toast
4. Breakfast: Hashbrown casserole with sausage, eggs and cheese, sweet rolls and juice.
5. Lunch: Pita sandwiches with sliced lunch meats, lettuce and tomatos, chips, and cookies or brownies.

Wow! I think the best resource is tasteofhome.com. They have sections just for feeding a crowd as well as budget-friendly meals. Look for oven recipes and slow-cooker recipes so you don't have to spend extra time on the preparations. The slow-cooker can definitely be used for breakfasts too- breakfast casseroles are yummy and hearty. I hope someone takes over the cooking for one day for you!! You should be treated like a queen for all you do.

**********CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS
2 cans of can butter biscuits
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
3 bouillon cubes
1 tsp garlic salt (optional)
3 to 4 boneless chicken breast
Boil chicken breast until done (20 minutes). While chicken is boiling, prepare dumplings.
Roll out can of biscuits on a work surface sprinkled with flour. Make them as flat at you can and check that they have a light coating of flour. Set them aside.
When chicken is done, remove from pan and set aside to cool, saving the water in the pot that the chicken was cooked in. Skim any foam off the surface; you want to make sure you have a good bit of water in the pot, about 3/4 full. If water has boiled off, then just add more. Bring to a boil and add 1 can of Cream of Chicken, 2tbs butter, 3 boullion cubes, 1 tsp of garlic salt. Stir well
Over medium high heat, begin adding dumplings. Tear them into quarter size pieces and drop into the boiling water.
Hint: The less you stir the better they are, so after you add all of them, reduce the heat to medium setting, stirring only occasionally. Add chicken back into pot, tearing into small pieces. Cook until the dumplings are soft; this usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. I promise these are the best dumplings you will ever eat!. Enjoy!

*********CHICKEN CACCIATORE WITH NOODLES
1/4 c. oil
1 - 3 lb. chicken, cut up
2 pt. jars Spaghetti sauce
1 tsp. pepper
1 clove minced garlic
12 oz. pkg. noodles
Parmesan cheese
Grated cheese
Heat oil in skillet. Brown chicken on all sides. Combine salt, pepper, sauce and garlic; pour over chicken. Simmer covered 25 minutes or until tender. About 10 minutes before chicken is done, cook noodles according to package. Drain. Arrange chicken on noodles. Sprinkle cheese over all. Serves 4 to 6.

**********Hamburger patties Salisbury Steak

Bake pre made hamburger patties at 350 for 30 minutes or until done. I seasoned mine with garlic salt and pepper.

2/3 c. water
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer 15 minutes. Spoon over Salisbury Steaks.

Serve with rice or pasta. Family favorite!
