Definately Auburn University. Auburn is ranked 35th nationally among public schools in engineering according to US News and World Rankings. Auburn also has several departments ranked in the top 50 nationally among engineering schools.

Look closely at rankings for particular specialties within engineering, but across the board Auburn University is deemed the best. (AU was ranked 35th nationally by U.S. News among public universities in engineering doctoral programs). Also, a lot of local engineers are Auburn grads and they prefer to hire their own. Alabama and Alabama A&M haven't got the same reputation in this field, although good grads have come out of both.

Probably the question should be which school seems to produce the best engineers. I would also go with Auburn, although I agree that in general you get out of an education what you put into it, so it really isn't such a big deal where you go to school. In fact, schools with good reputations can be quite ruthless to students and very aggressive at weeding out people. This is more true at the graduate level than the bachelors. A medium school that treats you with respect is probably better than a superior school that could care less about you.

If you are going for a BS degree, it does not matter which school you go to. You are going to get out of it what you put in.

When you go to the job interview, it is not going to make a difference what school you went to. How you present yourself is the difference.

AU has a good EE program, first-rate labs, but many members of the faculty are major pricks.
