Dogs are hunters and are capable of chasing, hurting and/or killing a cat. Some will eat the cat, some will just play with it to death (and beyond).

There is no specific breed that will or won't do this. ANY dog is capable of it.

Some of the northern breeds-huskies, malamutes, etc.- have a high prey drive and will see a cat as something to go after. Some, like my huskies, are fine with cats.

Terriers were bred to hunt and kill small game, so many of them are prone to go after cats. Some terriers are fine with cats.

In the end it all comes down to the individual dog.

Yes sometimes pit bulls do. My sister's pit bull eviscerated a neighbor's cat in front of the children. My sister's husband took the dog out and shot it. I know not all pit bulls do, but some will. I have two other neighbors whose pit bulls were put down for similar reasons.

Any dog that is not taught to leave cats alone could possibly bother cats, or if they are really mean, kill them. I don't know if they would actually sit down and have a cat for lunch or not.

Any dog can chase, injure or eat a cat. You might touch lucky and get a dog that likes cats. I have a black lab that likes cats.

If they were starving, sure. Generally, no, although dogs with high prey drives will chase smaller animals and sometimes kill them.
