At the time my husband was in the army, the age cutoff was 33 but I have heard that the age has been increased to 42 and I wanted to know if it is true. He is 34 and thinking of re-enlisting and I am curious about whether or not he is too old.

I'm not sure if it is 33 or 42, however if he is prior service he will get credit year for year. For example, if he served 4 years before, he could reenlist up to age 37 (33 + 4).

this is in responce to the person talking about the grandmother serving, well she could have been in for a while, the reserves and national guard work differently on their retirement also some people might get special work incentives by serving in the military so they stay in. Those who have been around the military long enough have seen those really old e-5's. they are there by personal choice not because someone is making them.

Currently, the Army has changed it's requirement to 40 years of age (but if you have "Prior Service" they may be able to do something for you). The Reserves used to be 40 as well.
