I would go with Dupont Zodiaq...it is a quartz countertop that is antimicrobial and easy to maintain. It is more expensive than laminate but more affordable as granite and just as beautiful as granite. Good luck!

Silestone is the new and non-porous option that is very popular. Corian continues to be a strong option. I wouldn't recommend marble as it is too unstable and porous, same with quartz. Ask someone knowledgeable about countertops in the kitchen and bath section of Home Depot or Loews to review your options.

Granite. Everything else costs the same but is a poor substitute. Want to go cheap? Use formica.

Not Shiny Tile. Or anything shiny. I have shiny black tile and it is a pain to keep clean. I always have to following up cleaning with windex so they won't be any streaks. Pain in butt.
