Have a QUALIFIED mechanic look at the car. If it has a 3.8 engine ask if the headgaskets have been replaced. The 3.0 and 24V Duratec engines are pretty good.
For $800.00 it's tuff to find a PERFECT car but if the mechanic gives it a good send-off buy it.

Well, I am definite we each recognize the ancient announcing that cash talks and all of the relaxation walks. for a used auto for reliability, non-home, this could be fingers down toyota or honda. But is paying the top class for a sixteen y.o. boy valued at the dividends. This is all too elegant at the manner he drives and cares for, or abuses, his trip. Personally, I'd positioned him an older Caprice or Crown Vic for more than a few motives, and permit him fear approximately the gasoline invoice. Teaches responsibilty, especially with cash. However, if he's identified to be the exception to the rule of thumb, and wont bend to see stress, then the customary plan of Honda or Toyota makes superb feel, as they're going to continue abit in their significance if cared for and must be effortless to promote whilst it's time to improve. By the best way, a carfax is consistently a well inspiration on any used auto, except its only a few ancient $2 hundred door slammer, now not what you indicated as watching for.

A lot of factors make up a 'good deal', but If it runs, any vehicle is worth $800. It is a small investment for a car that could potentially run for awhile.
Of course, common sense comes into this, as well. If it is about to fall apart or smoke is barreling out of the exhaust, etc., you will probably want to save your $$.

have the car checked out by a qualified mechanic. if it passes inspection, and you like the car, and it is not the 3.8 engine, then buy the car. the 3.8 engine has head gasket problems.
