The earth is approx 3.7 Billion years old, and the known universe is approx 13 Billion year old.

How does this conflict affect your thoughts on religious scripture.

Many believe that the Bible begins with the Old Testament - Genesis 1:1.
It actually begins in the New Testament - John.1:1 ''In the beginning was the Word --------''.

There just is not enough space here to explain why the current estimated age of this planet is NOT in variance with The Holy Bible.

The truth is that as per today no man, or woman, KNOWS how old this planet or the Universe is.
The current estimate is based on current knowledge and a fact is not a truth. Although that the age can be described as ancient can not be in doubt.

However, to start you on your journey you may wish to consider that the space of time between Gen.1:1 and verse 2 is also unknown. Verse 2 is NOT a direct continuation of verse 1.

If the earth is old then the Bible cannot be trusted.
It clearly teaches that the earth is young.
Genesis is written as a historical account (not poetry or allegory). All Hebrew scholars agree that the author intended it to be understood as recent creation.

If the earth is old then death was around before the Fall of man. This means that death is not the result of man's sin. This means that Jesus did not die for man's sin.
An old earth completely undermines the Christian Gospel.

Jesus clearly believed the earth was young. (E.g Mt 10:6-9: But at the *beginning* of Creation God 'made them male and female'. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.)
Further, all the NT authors quote Genesis 1-10 as history.

There is no Biblical justification whatsoever for believing the earth is old.

The only reason is because certain 'scientists' have had an interest in promoting their philosphical (atheistic) worldview. It started with Lyell, and people have been using bad science to justify disbelief in God ever since.

Fortunately the scientific evidence supports a young earth.

Not only does the age of the earth not affect my religious beliefs but it doesn't affect me in any other way either. There are more important things to be concerned with than how old this rock is. If it was found tomorrow that science is wrong and the world is only 3000 years old I would say "Hmmmm... How interesting" and go back to what I was doing.

Age of the world or angels on the head of a pin - it is the same argument, different day.

Uh, oh. Here come the "earth is only 6,000 years old" answers.

Actually the Genesis account does not support the idea that the earth was created in 6 literal days. In fact, after completing creation, the Genesis account combines all the 6 creative days into one day stateing"the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens" (Genesis 2:4)

Hence, the word "day" being used in Genesis is not referring to a 24-hour period. Rather, the term "day" was being used as a undetermined beginning point and ending point of time. Like today, older men may say something like "back in my day" referring not to 24 hours, but to a time period. The Genesis "days" are merely unspecified time periods.

i think of you replied your very own question. "If our communique have been written down and studied centuries from now, could or no longer it extremely is translated and interpreted by potential of destiny scholars in a LITERAL way?" The non secular texts being studied from century's in the past desire additionally to contemplate of the different texts written regarding the comparable cases. It turns into obtrusive that persons used distinctive sayings and idioms to describe something in under literal words. Allegory, Poetry, Writers license, and so on. open up a manner of seeing into the perception of the writers of that element. no longer all non secular texts have the honesty of the Jewish Scriptures. The Torah and Septuagint are very sparkling approximately what the author replaced into writing approximately. (God breathed, is what we Christians say) different texts, The Koran, The writings of Buddha and the jap Religions are "sayings" as against The Jewish thought of salvation by potential of the death of a blood sacrifice. The Mormon writings are extremely a regrettably designed tale without archaeological proofs. so which you're able to desire to comprise the undeniable language of the day as a instruction manual to what's being translated. Even in the present day, some languages don't have words or concepts that tournament English or many Latin entomology's.

The Universe IS - The Earth IS (for now)
I AM (for now)

It doesnt affect my beliefs at all - there are greater things in this Universe than man can ever fully understand.

Be humble and know without the creation of the Universe and our Planet - man would not exist - Enjoy - Be Happy and Be Kind to your fellow man.

Wikipedia isn't a bad source of information, but if you're going to use it for anything serious, only use info that cites its references, and then check the references.

There are, of course, a lot of Bible "literalists" who insist that the Earth can only possibly be 6,000 years old because of the timeline implied in Scripture. But it's simple to argue that the passages in question are meant to be interpreted "symbolically," and that there's really no contradiction between science and religion on this count. I suppose people are free to believe what they will.

It doesn't. In fact, what it does show is that the world in contingent: it can be other than what it is. Indeed, the scientific quest is to explain why things work and are the way they work and are. From deep sea steam vents, to the sulfur vents of Io, to the solar flares of Antares, scientists want to know "Why?" That question goes to the very heart of the Universe as we experience. Answering that last question *is* to engage in a philosophical enterprise.

There is a theory that God created 'old' i.e. that He created rocks that appear millions of years old. One way of looking at it is when He created Adam, the first man. Did He create him as a new born baby, with no one to teach him how to eat or where to get food from, etc. One would have thought that he was created about 18 or 25 with the ability to look after himself in the garden.

Why did god create 'old'? Perhaps it was just to test our faith.

An interesting magazine to read is Susan Bakers, 'Bone of Contention'. I think it is out of print, but I'm sure you could get one on Amazon.

a lot of your question is pure speculation.any one can come up with a formula about the age of the world, ore the whole known universe.but proofing it is another matter.assuming that your theory is correct and all of creation is that old.man's recorded history is only 6000 years old.and don't try to debunk this fact of knowledge.man was the last part in god's creation on earth and every thing else is pure fiction.no, i don't have any problem with my faith.
