People who hand-raise tiny baby kittens get very upset too, if they die, even though those kittens were "only" a week or two old.
Thank you for caring for that kitten, Every life is precious.
Eventually, there will be a special place in your heart where that kitten will live forever, and your grief will "mellow".
I still miss my PeeWee cat, who died a LOOONG time ago.
Maybe one day another kitten or cat will tug at your heartstrings and ask for a place in your home and your heart.
Do you have the mama cat? She should be spayed.

Well it depends... I can tell you loved it a lot so I'd probably say that you wont get over it for another month or two if you are now alone without anyone. I'd suggest to wait until the kitten is no longer depressing you then maybe try another one:) Not one that looks like the one that recently died... cause it will remind you of the old one for a long time...
I'm sorry that you lost him:(
Good Luck tho....

I had a cat when I was seven, Sunshine, she was outside one night and a fox or a coyote bit her, she didn't make it. She was only one too and she was always perfectly healthy. I was heartbroken. The pain starts to go away after about a month after the death of a pet. But you never forget it even though you try so hard to move on. Especialy with kittens.

It really depends... As it is such a sad thing that happened to him, you will always remember him, but one day you will just... not feel such a strong urge to cry when you think about him...
It is good and bad that he was 5 weeks old... You didn't have as much time to get attached, though heaven knows it still hurts! But there is also the whole thing about him having been in so much pain, and having died young.
As you didn't have as much time with him, it is hard to say "Just focus on the good times" because he really wasn't here that long...
I suggest that you cry the amount that you need to before you start to feel better... Take the time that you need. But always let him live in your heart, and in your mind.
I had a baby mouse, she was about 3 weeks old, and she got squashed... It hurt so bad... She was so young, and her mum wouldn't know what happened to her... And there was the fact that when she got squashed... She wasn't killed... But her skull was all bent and broken... And then my boyfriend put her out of her misery...
All i could think about in the days that followed, was how much pain she must have been in just before she died, and if she thought that she had done something bad, and that was why she was hurting so much...
Anyway, the point is, it still hurts now, talking about it... but as you said, i know she is no longer in pain... And i have pictures to look back on, and i have her brothers and sisters... One who looks so much like her... I can remember the time that she opened her eyes, when she first ate solid food... And they make me smile...
Take your own time, it will stop hurting when it stops hurting... And in the mean time, i am here if you want to talk about it, or anything, and if you need to vent.
What was his name, and what colour was he?

Well, it al depends
I have to let go a female cat that I had for 5 years because leukemia.
She was my everyday partner and even took care of me when I was sick.
Is a hard, sad feeling but you cant think of yourself, think of the kitten well being and be proud. I will remeber her for ever!!
Now, dont try to substitute him with another cat. Each one is a single individual and will act as such.
Stand tall and be proud of yourself because that kitten choose YOU instead of another person to be his soulmate for the rest of your live.
Remember....cats choose us, not the other way around
You can love a cat.....but you cant make a cat love you!!!

There is no actual time period....it will take awhile, your best bet is to find a replacement quickly. I put my cat down 3 yrs ago, the next day I went out and adopted 2 more cats from a local shelter it definately helped out the sadness

7 Days. Give or take.
It takes 25 days to break a habit. You change entirely over the course of three weeks, so do you best to focus on more important things.
Millions of animals and humans die every day. Don't beat yourself up for only one.
Hope i helped

aww i feel so sorry for you. My cat died a few months ago because the vet we switched from before he died just wasn't working well. what you need to do is keep pictures in strange places so that you see him often but do other things to keep your mind off it. its just like losing a family member. it really is losing a family member. just remember that he is in a better place now

it will take a couple of weeks to get past it and then slowly move on try focusing on the fact that he is in a happier place and go to petsmart and look at all the animals that need homes and maybe youwill slowly develop room in your heart for another pet...
