Since you don't beleive in evolution, I have to ask you, where did you learn about evolution?

Did a pastor say that evolution is the theory that your great grandfather was a monkey that came from goo? And that it's "Just a theory", not a fact?

Or did you learn from a scientist or a biology professor who told you that several million years ago apes began to evolve to suit their enviroments eventually transforming into different homo species from habilis to erectus to sapien (us) and through the process of natural selection the humans, being the most advanced species flourished while all the other species died out? And that a scientific theory is different from an every day theory in the way that while an every day theory is just a hunch or a guess, but a scientific theory is something that is backed up by evidence, is widley accepted by most scientists, and is the next best thing to a scientific law?

Because most of you sound like you were taught by the pastor.

rlg, I just explained why a scientific theory is different from an every day theory. Kent Hovind is a complete and total idiot. I love how you christians go around saying "evolution is just a theory", like the bible is a fact or something.

Basically, you can see that there are people educated on the science (accept evolution) and those ignorant to the science (don't accept evolution). But it is clear that no one who is educated on the subject rejects evolution. The frustrating part is that they think they are educated.

I learned about Evolution from the public school system that I was in in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Alexander Fleming Jr. High and Narbonne High School. I took some science classes while I was there. It was the 'approved' textbooks that I learned from as well as the 'approved' teachers. I learned from Biology 1 & 2, Physiology, and even had some Chemistry. I learned how to formulate a 'proofs and theorems' in Geometry after taking Algebra 1. I also took Anthropology and Psychology.

I basically bought to whole thing, hook, line, and sinker. And then I started to think.

What I see today is a lot of people taking a theory and making it their own proof. What science has is a lot of dead animals, and somehow because some of them are similar, they came from each other. That is not logical to me. It CAN be logical, but it does not prove evolution.

So Evolution is just another form of faith. It has what some would say is evidence of proof, but it does not have proof as many here attest.

So, what will it get you if evolution is true? Nothing really. Many of those who trust in their evolving are here talking about something else they have no proof of. They have no proof of God and they typically spend way too much time here talking about it, as if no one has any proof. So I wonder: If they find that evolution is proof of no God, then why are they here? How boring their lives must be to spend so much time on this and not that!

But I know that people need their religions, as Evolution is yet another religion being preached here daily.

Personally I have had it with people who call them selves scientists and self appointed solution makers who keep on ruling out the existence of a creator even though the complexity of life around them and the fact they cannot explain zillions of things point out they might be wrong.
I explain, why is it that science develops crazy theories about the universe and the laws that govern it which happen to be way more far-fetched than the work of a creator ? They admit that the universe is too complex to be governed by chance, and they realize that if earth for instance was to be few centimetres closer or farther from the sun, no life could have existed on it in the first place ! The same thing applies to our own existence, they say there is no way the complexity of our brains, our hearts, the way we breath etc could have evolved from a simple organism that gave birth to this immense Varity of creatures all with a very precise purpose to play in the complex game of life ! And why are we the only creatures to ponder about our existence, why aren’t cows or squirrels making theories and using computers ?! why didn’t they evolve to the level we are now if we evolved from monkeys ? why didn’t some monkeys evolve to our standard ?? all these questions and many many more remain unanswered by the scientific community which keeps on proposing some far fetched “theories”, and for those who are not sure what a theory is, it’s nothing more that a speculation with no hard evidence.
So here we are, in a universe we barely understand, we try to deny the existence of a creator in order to allow our selves to behave like animals and therefore ignore all moral values which by the way, where did we get those values from, and why are they so perfect in making our lives more organised and prevent chaos and mayhem ?!!! if we are mere animals descending from monkeys why do we think steeling for instance is not good, animals do that all the time, and move on with no hard feelings or grudge for each other, the same applies to killing in the animal kingdom…oh and yeh cheating on your girl is also ok in the animal kingdom why do we get upset when that happen to us !!!
Now that the scientific community is stuck and cannot explain how perfect the design of life is they go as far as imagining a new theory which proposes that our universe is one of many other universes and that some of those universes might be so much technologically advanced that they would have the intelligence to simulate our universe just as we today simulate a computer game?? (meaning we are now living in a super massive computer system and on the other side of the screen are super smart green men enjoying their brand new 11 dimensional game !!!! Doesn’t that eerily remind you of something ?? someone intelligent controlling our lives and the laws of nature ??? !!! This is just instance, anything is possible, any thing is acceptable but God, no way !!!!
I never said Science should be ignored and that we should turn to religion only , quite the contrary, I believe that science could be much more productive if it were to introduce the concept of a creator to its dominantly secular belief system, God actually encourages to us to ponder and search for truth in this life because he is confident we will eventually find out the truth about his existence as Albert Einstein said on his death bed: “God is not hiding anything from us, he only wants us to look harder”
Take the hint !
I just wish they open their eyes before it’s too late !
Ps: When I say God I don’t necessarily mean Jesus or the Christian God for that matter, there are other religions too you know, if you really want to know God he will make himself apparent to you all you have to do is go out and look for him, it’s that simple.

Salam !

For many years, evolutionary scientists—and science museums and zoos—have hailed the chimpanzee as “our closest living relative” and have pointed to the similarity in DNA sequences between the two as evidence. In most previous studies, they have announced 98-99% identical DNA.1 However, these were for gene coding regions (such as the sequence of the cytochrome c protein), which constituted only a very tiny fraction of the roughly 3 billion DNA base pairs that comprise our genetic blueprint. Although the full human genome sequence has been available since 2001, the whole chimpanzee genome has not. Thus, all of the previous work has been based on only a portion of the total DNA.
So what is this great and overwhelming “proof” of chimp-human common ancestry? Researchers claim that there is little genetic difference between us (only 4%). This is a very strange kind of proof because it is actually double the percentage difference that has been claimed for years!4 The reality is, no matter what the percentage difference, whether 2%, 4%, or 10%, they still would have claimed that Darwin was right.
Further, the use of percentages obscures the magnitude of the differences. For example, 1.23% of the differences are single base pair substitutions. This doesn’t sound like much until you realize that it represents ~35 million mutations! But that is only the beginning, because there are ~40–45 million bases present in humans and missing from chimps, as well as about the same number present in chimps that is absent from man. These extra DNA nucleotides are called “insertions” or “deletions” because they are thought to have been added in or lost from the sequence. This puts the total number of DNA differences at about 125 million. However, since the insertions can be more than one nucleotide long, there are about 40 million separate mutation events that would separate the two species.
To put this number into perspective, a typical page of text might have 4,000 letters and spaces. It would take 10,000 such full pages of text to equal 40 million letters! So the differences between humans and chimpanzees include ~35 million DNA bases that are different, ~45 million in the human that are absent from the chimp and ~45 million in the chimp that are absent from the human.

Although you did not say it in so many words, you seem to imply that all Christians reject evolution. This is not so. The Catholic church, which is the largest single christian church on the planet, does not reject evolution.

To answer your question, I mainly learned about evolution in high school and college biology classes. In addition, I have been reading National Geographic for as long as I can remember, my parents had a subscription and I still do.

I learned about the theory of evolution in grade school, long before I became a Christian.

The science behind the theory of evolution is inconclusive at best, and does not prove the theory of evolution to be fact.

Those who believe in the theory of evolution do so based on their logic of what is perceived as evidence (and no, the skeletons of dinosaurs doesn't prove evolution either).

I am certain that God exists, and that we are created rather than evolved from something less than us.

I am a Christian and I believe in evolution. I would guess a majority of Christians do. It may not seem that way because there are a disproportionate amount of fundies on YA. As someone above me mentioned, the bible is not a science book, it is a spiritual book.

I dont really remember where I learned about evolution. Probably public school, or maybe from PBS. Maybe from my folks - a christian and an agnostic, both of open mind.

I'm a Christian but I do not DIS-believe in evolution. There's much yet to know in the universe by ALL of us.

I look forward to the de rigeur responses from creationists who claim to have learned a lot about evolution in college...and then spit out one or another of the standard creationist propaganda lines about thermodynamics or "why haven't other apes evolved?" or "why have we stopped evolving?" or "where are the intermediate forms?".

Won't that be fun?
==================
Later: Wow - look at the valiant Christians who posted here that they DO believe in evolution. My sincere respects to you, and my congratulations for being willing to stand up for what is right here. You do your religion proud, and I tip my hat to you.

I will redouble my efforts to keep mindful of the fact that "Christian" does not imply "creationist".
