There is a girl at work and she is very pedantic,

She tends to talk down to everyone else in the office, and go on like she knows everything.

It is really doing my head in, she used to work for a bank and has alot of background knowledge so she tends to talk down to the rest of the girls in the office, saying

'No you cant do this because '

How can address the matter?!

get her alone in the toilets and stick her head down the lavy,,,,, best to always nip bullies in the bud!!!!!

lol I have had such a laugh at these replies but PLEASE don't you or the group in the office try them out as you will all be sacked for victimisation, bullying etc.... The best way to deal with is learn your policies & procedures backwards. Just because she has worked somewhere else it may not necessarily have the same processes. May be similar but each company has there own way of doing things. You could also put aside your contempt of this girl and talk to her explain that you are gratefull for the advice but when she does this infront of others it puts you in a poor situation with other staff, as though you dont know your job....Why cant she emal her suggestions to the person instead.....This would alleviate the tension in the office and you could just delete......But just remember that some of her comments may be justified why not gleen all the informarion from her to enhance your knowledge thats what learning is all about.......

If you can't completely ignore her, chose someone else you work with who won't be talked down to and both politely confront her. Say how although you appreciate all the advice she shares with everyone else, she actually comes across as a bit patronising and would she mind only asnswering questions she's been asked in future. You need one person with you so it's not just a case of 'she said this, she said that' if she takes it to your boss and it's her word against yours. Chose who you take with you carefully.

You have to be very careful or you may well upset her. I wouldn't have any compunction about telling her myself, but then I would chance upsetting her for a more comfortable working envvironment.

Ususally people like this are very insecure. As I am a manipulist please use my advice with care as it works but is only listed here as nonsense and not to be used in real life situations.

You need to research this girl and since no one really likes her the whole department can all help you do this. Find something that she is insecure about ie fat, money, no blokes, bad breath, sweat, being easy etc and then use this information to put her on the spot.

If you use the sweat for example (because she sweats), get everyone together and mention that its hot and no one likes sweaty people and watch her really sweat. Once you have something that she cannot join in with you on a winner.

well there is an old school way that use to get rid of knowalls an that is a simple way get everyone to blacklist her an i mean blacklist by doing the following you an all the office workers you are now black listed for then put the following reasons like you have in your question,then put all letters or notes into her in box ,then completly ignore her altogether dont even say good morning or acknowlege her excistence an see what happens ok

The answer is simple, offer her a nice treat as a way of saying thank you for sharing all this wonderfull knowledge.

Of course your treat is a Croissant which has a Habanero pepper in it and she will soon learn to keep water in her mouth at all times.

As with any social situation, there are a number of options:

1) Slap her till she bleeds.
2) Tell your boss (be sure you don't come across as a tattle-tale, though. Just tell your boss that it's making you and your co-workers uncomfortable and negatively impacting your productivity).
3) Corner her with your co-workers after work and smear jam and marshmallow spread all over her and call her a "tart".

i think the old saying is "those that can do! those that cant teach" or is it preach. anyway people who claim to know better often dont know nothing. best way to adress the matter is to tell her to shut up nobodys listening. i worked with this fella who was a joke, thought he knew it all. he ended up costing me my job. just watch what you say in front of her she will be a two faced cow and drop you in it.

You could speak to her and say perhaps that you think she has really good ideas but tell her that sometimes the way she speaks is upsetting. See what she says but if she continues and you are not the only one go who is irritated then you could tell your manager/supervisor. Try not to make it so formal- believe me!! Unless she is horrible then she deserves it.

Every time she talks just look her straight in the eye and say" What Ever!!" You do that enough times and she may get the hint!!

wait for her to leave her desk, then do a big job in her handbag she will get a right shock when she gets her pass out on the bus. hope that helps, paulie
