You can do Istikhara in several ways, including the prayers you mention. The simplest way of doing an istikhara is to use your prayer beads. Make sure you have 100 beads in your prayer beads, with 33 +Imam+32+Imam+33 (Imams are the two long beads in the middle). Then pray two rakats of Salat-e-hajat. Make wadu, then before you begin the prayer make the intention saying "I am praying two rakats salaat-e-hajat, Sunnat Qurabatan ILAllah". In the first rakat read Surah-e- Hamd (including Bismillah) and then read Surah-e-Kowthar (Inna-A'tayna kal Kawthar.... ) again with recitation of Bismillah before the Surah.

In the second rakat read Surah-e-Hamd with bismillah and then read Surah-e-ikhlaas or Qool-hu-Allh.. with bismillah. Complete your prayer and read this:

Astakhirullahi Bi Rahmatihi Khiyaratan Fi A'Fia three times.

Then pick up your beads. Close your eyes, and make an intention to ask the Lord whether you should do X .. .. and pick a point on the beads and create a gap between them in one place, so that your prayer beads are less than half on one side and the remaining on the other side of the gap. Then begin to count from the front picking off two beads at a time. If you are left with one bead to the gap, then you may do X, if there are two beads left before the gap, then you should not do X.

You can do Istikhara as mentioned above, without the two rakat prayers also.

Also, you can make it WAJIB or compulsory by repeating the same prayer by saying "Should I NOT DO X" and see if you get one beat (Yes) or two beads (No). Once you do wajib, you MUST do what comes out as a direction to be followed. If it there is a variation in the second istikhara, you can go either way. It is recommended to go with the first answer in such a case.

That said, istikhara is not recommended unless you are in a deep predicament and can not decide. Generally it is preferred that you use reason and consult with several people before choosing.

Lastly you can not do Istikhara on things that are not permitted, as such an Istikhara is invalid.

I hope this answers your question. If you need more information, please contact me on my email.

May the Almighty solve your problem. Ameen.

note that it is important to know that God is capable of anything and that the more you ask God the more is the chance that you will get it and if you don't get it in this life your duaa will be saved for you in the after life.

The trick is no one listens. The spirit speaks to anyone where you ask, in your thoughts. We just dismiss the answers. Don't. Instead listen, even if the ideas that come to you seem wrong. Ask what it means and it will be answered there and then. That's how it works. It's meant not to be difficult.

If you're a muslim..you're praying to a false god. Pray to the Father of Jesus Christ, in Jesus' name. Ask for him to show you his salvation. Then you will truly find happiness!
