I do not think they go hand in hand. The people who do this are predators and in no way is it the children's fault.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but you are implying that it was their fault. I am sure the parents could have made different choices, but in the end there is no one to blame besides the horrible person who commits these crimes.
Blind faith can be dangerous, but it is fear that kept these children from speaking up. I think you should try to find a better example. Maybe like some of the parents who do not believe their children. Now that is blind faith.

All children, until they learn differently, are "victims" of their own innocence. Many are unable to report the fact that they have been abused for YEARS. This can be due either to fear or to repression due to trauma. Faith per se has nothing to do with it. Most children are blind to adult motives until they get the ability to think like an adult, which in my case was at about age 12 Religion itself is not the problem; predatory, often conscienceless adults are the problem. And there are millions of them all around, in and out of churches, synogogues, temples, school rooms, and especially, homes. .

Foolish people....God warned us many times of wolves in sheep's clothing. We are to be alert for the enemy comes dressed to try and blend in.

It is in all professions as well. People need to be alert for these child molesters in all professions as well as in the home and family members. It is a growing sickness brought on by pornography.

Stop your attacking the church on this and put your energies if you really care towards the root of it all..pornography and those companies that support it with advertising.

You only single out the church and assume that people are blinded by faith. No more than you are blinded by the truth that pornography is everywhere, t.v. radio, movies, cartoons, advertisments, commercials, malls, under your kids beds, giving out free condoms in school which makes sex o.k., what is your spouse reading? Sports Illustrated? Oh for the articles...right...what about the Victoria Secret modeling underwear shows on T.V? Is that something that seems O.K. to you? It's just underwear...yeah..right.

People get a grip..you allowed this country to go to the dogs in a handbasket because of freedom of choice? Freedom of speech? Monitor nothing that is dangerous and let it grow like cancer from within. We need not worry so much about terrorist destroying our country. We are doing it ourselves.

They are victims of authority figures taking advantage of the naive. All children are taught to obey, not just religious ones. It is the obedience programming which aided these clergymen in their abusive behavior. Obedience programming IS especially strong and prevalent in Christianity.

Saywhat alludes to a very good point - culture and the blind faith of the parents added to the problem.

You're missing the whole point, it's not about faith.
Children get abused by other people and not just church folk.
Children are always threatened to not tell, and that if they do more harm will come to them or their families.
Sexual abuse, which I'm assuming you're referring to, is something kids instinctively know is wrong. They think that if they tell that it happened to them, they'd be thought of as being at fault and dirty and that no one would love them anymore.

The children were victims of pedophiles, not blind faith, from my pov. It's almost impossible to get accurate stats on sexual abuse due to the sheer number of people who simply don't report it due to the trauma and feelings of shame.

If that were true, then by your logics any child molested by someone other then a priest would immediately report it. If you know anything about child abuse, you know that is not the case.

Sorry, you can't blame child abuse on religious faith. They were the victims of a pervert, not of faith.

What I see is the dangers of oppresion.
It is un-natural to repress our physical and sexual needs. We are physical creatures and the sooner the church accepts this as a fact and allows the clergy to live normal lives the sooner these issues will go away.

We can't blame the faith either. It's the evil imposters who claim to be apart of the faith that are the real culprits!
