You're not far from the truth.
The Altima Coupe is built on the same Nissan FM platform that the 350Z and G35 were built. This does NOT mean the cars are the same, just that they have a common platform.

Rebadged G35? No. Infiniti is the premium brand with a much nicer interior. It is also RWD instead of FWD. The only thing the vehicles have in common are the company [Infiniti is a Nissan brand], the platform and the engine.

The most likely target of the Altima Coupe is the Honda Accord Coupe and Toyota Camry Solara Coupe. These cars are in the same class judged by their size and price. The Scion tC, as the person above me wrote, is in a completely different class (compact), as is Acura a premium sedan which is in the same class with the Lexus and Infiniti.

Other than having more a more curvy, swoopy shape and the VQ V6 Engine..the new Altima Coupe really doesn't model itself after the Infiniti G35 or G37.

The Altima is FWD and performance as well as handling, while decent, are not even close to that of the RWD G35/G37 + the Infiniti has tons of extra goodies that the Altima WON'T.

My guess is that Nissan is targeting the Altima Coupe to compete with cars like the Acura RSX or MAYBE even the Scion tC (The Altima Coupe clearly outclasses BOTH of those cars, in my humble opinion + has more HP than either one).

Its your imagination, the Altima is built on its own platform and a new G37 coupe is due out any day now. They share the same engine, but little if anything else. The 350Z is also unique from both cars, but shares more with the G35 then the Altima coupe does.

It is your imagination. Look at pics side by side. Look at the interior. Although Infinity is the parent company of Nissan, these are two different cars. Both coupes so you could compare, but not the same. Designed in Farmington Hills MI, Huge props to the engineers for designing an amazing machine!

Well Nissan and Infiniti are made by the same manufacturer.
Just like Honda and Acura, or Toyota and Lexus.
