IMPOSSIBLE!

How do we have snakes if there are still lizards!

2007-08-07 07:56:22 · answer #1 · answered by Armless Joe, Bipedal Foe 6 · 2 1

The fossil snake with (hind) legs, dubbed Haasiophis terrasanctus, was jound near Jarusalem in a 95 million year old deposit and lived in a marine habitat similar to a Bahamian reef. Yes, the snake lived in water, not the Garden of Eden.

It is theorised that the legged snake is a transitional fossil linking monosaurs, gigantic swimming lizards (from the Cretaceous geological period) and modern snakes.

The hindlimb is too small though to have locomotive function.

"Modern pythons have a rudimentary hindlimb, usually little more than a "claw" of cartilage tipped with bone that they use during mating and occasional fighting, and it is possible that Haasiophis' leg served a similar purpose."

None of the above information has come from the bible.

And evolution occurs over millenia, not split seconds.

But for the believers, Eden looked like the Bahamas and adam and everare 90 million years, 7 years and 4 months old today ; }

Gen 3:22 ... and take additionally of the tree of life, and consume, and stay for ever: God could have realised He goofed - He forget approximately to guard the tree. devil defied God's curse!!! God became unlikely to enable it happen back, so, Adam and Eve have been for this reason prevented from eating it...They died.... And the Serpent stay fortuitously continuously after....And he can fly, walk, swim, crawl, remodel...and so on.

God was actually addressing Satan; his debased condition since then could be compared to crawling while Michael, Gabriel, and others walk upright within God's organization.

Even if they did have legs before, wouldn't losing them be a step backwards? That doesn't seem to fit well into the theory of evolution, perhaps some1 can expound...

If you're talking about the snake in the Genesis story, according to Judaism, it was not a snake. "Serpent" refers to its nature, not its body. It walked upright like a man, and it looked like a man as well, because it was an early form of humanoid. It was also intelligent, but it did not have a higher level of soul that human beings have, the neshama. It only had the lower level animal soul, the nefesh. It was not a snake at all.

This humanoid was not the only one in existance, there were many of them, in fact they were the ones inhabiting the cities and towns that Cain went to after killing his brother Abel. Cain asked for a sign to be put on his forehead after he killed his brother Abel, so that he wouldn't be killed as a murderer - interesting since most Christians are unaware that there were other human-types around, they always ask "Well who was he afraid of if he and Abel and Adam and Eve were the only ones around?" They weren't.

When the Church STOLE our holy books from us, they neglected to take MOST of it with them. What they took was the Written Torah, which is what you have as the Old Testament (except for the 30 thousand or so changes the Church made to it for themselves). The Old Testament is like the liner notes that a professor would make before going before a class and giving a lecture. It is basically just the notes, the memory joggers, while the complete lecture he has in his head.

This is what the Oral Torah is, the complete lecture. It has all the meanings, and the "rest of the story", etc. It was given to Moses as well, that is why he was up there on Mt. Sinai for so long - it doesn't take "40 days and nights" to write down 10 commandments on a piece of rock, you know.

The Oral Torah was written down, during the time the Jews were in the Babylonian Exile (after the Babylonians came and sacked the Temple in Jerusalem and took the Jews as slaves).

When the Church learned that they had not stolen the entire Jewish Torah, in fact they had only stolen the smallest part, the liner notes, they were infuriated. Burnings at the stake followed, for the Jews, rounding up and tortures, etc. Then the Church actually put the Oral Torah on trial. Held a real trial for it, in which it was found guilty of heresy, and at that point it was burned at the stake along with any Jew who refused to give theirs up. Houses were searched, ransacked, and Jews were murdered left and right. However, the Church did not find all of the Oral Torahs, we preserved it well, and still have it to this day.

So maybe you might want to try learning what is in there from those to whom it belongs - the Jewish people, next time, instead of making yourself look like a braying donkey with the "bwahahahahaha" thing. We suffered quite a lot to hold onto our holy books, and we are the ones who knows what is actually in them - so did the Church but of course it would never teach it to its followers. Which is probably why you are ignorant of it as well - I bet you've never even asked a religious Jewish person about anything in the Torah, have you? Try it next time.

One thing is that God did not cursed the snakes, He cursed Satan, and yes snakes did have lags at one point in history.

as recorded in Gen 3"14, God addressed the serpent that had decieved Eve in the garden of Eden. The bible does not specifically state that the animal used in tempting Eve had previously had legs but lost them. while the wording of Gen. 3:14, might lead some to think so, we need not necessarily conclude that prior to this curse, serpents had legs. becuase of the real object of Gods judgement was Satan, invisible spirit who had misused that lowly animal, the bible describes Satan as the "father of the lie" and "the original serpent." Both of these expressions apparently point back to Satan's using a visible animal, serpent as his mouthpiece to induce Eve to disobey Gods Command. God created serpents, and Adam had apparantly given serpents their name before Satan's deceptive act. The unreasoning serpent that spoke to Eve was not to blame.

And why are there snakes that lack vestigial legs an the "legless" lizards with vestigial legs? Apparently wrath isn't flawless.

I don't know about it being god's doing, but yes some snakes do have vestigial legs or leg spurs.
