I realize there is probably more than one answer to this but......
Is it strickly our religious convictions (i.e. abortion, pro-life)?

Or does it have to do with world issues (i.e. environmental issues)?

I'm a Republican to the bone......but I don't always agree with my party.

What do you think?

Thank you......I had a feeling I spelled "strictly" wrong. It just didn't look right.

Republicans : "Money is more important than people".

Democrats : "People are more important than money".

Democrats generally support the killing of a baby before he/she is born... whereas Republicans believe in killing live human beings through war fare. Just kidding....

Democrats generally take the left of the center of the Judeo/Christian/Islamic value system of supporting the weak, providing services to the downtrodden, but then support the crooks and criminals, communism or socialism at times and other follies that the religious do not accept.

Republicans on the other hand support some moral values, support the concept of God in schools, and are right on some of the issues, but then they believe in supporting the very rich to get richer, as if the rich "created" the wealth of their own accord, when they were born naked and hungry like everyone. They also tend to support wars and bellicose behavior on the Lord's Earth.

Center is the only correct direction... neither right nor left, where you uphold moral values, God, support the poor, but not to the point of injustice as the communists do (even if you work hard, you have to split your fruits evenly with the lazy bones). As a Christian-Muslim-Jewish person, you would not support pure capitalism where workers are worked to death for profit (which used to happen in the mines of various areas and may be still happens in some area).

In general the rational among the religious are right there in the middle of the spectrum, where the Lord wants us to be. So, it does not matter whether you are a republican or a democrat, if you are fully one or the other you are wrong, and if you are partially one or the other in the right way then you are right.

I hope this makes sense.

The core difference lies in what is known as the "trickle down" theory of economics. This model, developed in the Republican school of thought, asserts that the more money that the affluent are allowed to conserve through tax relief will be invested in creating new opportunities for the working class. The Money will "trickle" from the top down.

The labor and trade based Democratic philosophy asserts that if you provide better wages for the work that is being done right now, more money will be spent and thus circulated through the economy.

That is why the Democrats are represented by the mule -- a working animal -- while the Republicans are by the elephant, symbolizing wealth and opulence. It has been a long running struggle between the haves seeking to have more (presumably to benefit everyone else) and the have-nots to get anything to improve the foundation of society.

You sure know how to ask apparently simple questions which require complicated answers. However, I'll make my commentary short as possible.
No it is not 'strictly' religious convictions which separate these two parties though it is indeed a large part of the schism between the respective parties.
On the right we have Republicans who generally speaking believe that there is one God and that the Bible is true. This group believes we should run our morals and government according to certain guiding principles that God put forth.
To the left we have a group known as Democrats who believe that all should be run in accordance to popular morality even though that 'morality' may possess nothing in the likeness of morality. Religion "Christian" religion should be blocked out from all aspects of public life and all other faiths encouraged.
At least that is what I have come to observe.
God Bless...

Not much to tell you the truth. The most important and primary objective of both parties is to hold office and get as many seats as possible in Congress. Both parties will bend backwards to get voters. Presidents that get elected now know this and go for the moderate platform trying to get as many voters as possible in order to win office( primary objective). Both parties will say whatever it takes to win votes. Take a look at last couple presidential races and one can see that both candidates are very similar for they know if they lean to far one way they will be losing votes. There are differences as well but not that extreme; Democrat and Republican are very broad terms. On average democrats are concerned with the welfare of the country and social programs which require lots of money and in turn usually results in higher taxes. Republicans are for spurring the economy by lowering taxes and cutting social programs that they see are a waste of tax payers money. In the US party discipline is very lax so you will find conservative democrats and liberal republicans.

I used to consider myself a die hard Republican. In 1994 I literally jumped for joy when the GOP took over Congress. Today in 2007 I do not see much difference between the two parties. I fully understand why voter turnout keeps falling. All the candidates are the same, it makes no difference who wins or loses the election.

Republicans were failing until Regan hijacked religion. Democrats blow money on social programs and infrastructure. Republicans used to be about small government but that day is gone. We are blowing more money now than ever. Ironically we are instituting unconstitutional 'big brother is watching you' type programs now.

You look like you have the current social issues correct.

I like djmantx's answer..The demos will try to use Bush's history to get elected, but Hillary is the new chosen puppet of the power elite. I don't know yet about Obama's allegiance, but his lack pf experience would be a problem. Ron Paul follows no party lines and wants to end the domination of the power elite.

Republican since the day i could vote.

To me the main differance is the issues, abortion, enviroment, corporate exc...

The republican party we have today is not the party I remember, it was about smaller government, self control and core values.

The Democratic party has always been about larger government, taxation for pet projects ie. welfare, social issues, government assisted health care.

The majority of the democratic issues are why the church was created in the first place to help the homeless, feed the starving provide for the fatherless, yet the government has said we don't need the church, so instead of us being able to use tithes and offerings to support what we care about they tax us and force us to help on programs that we may or may not believe in.

Just my two-cents.

Between the parties? None - both are ruled by money.

Between their politics, I would say there is some difference but not much.

I am a liberal but I can't stand the democrats. My preferred candidate would be a non-jongoistic, socially-liberal, fiscal conservative. So I have to hold my nose and vote.

We need IRV in this country or we are gonna lose our democracy.

It tends to run in families. Perhaps it's just hereditary.

People will talk your ear off, about the fundamental differences, but in a free democracy, we are not tied to one party.

Everyone is free to vote differently election to election.

"Tweedle dumb" and "Tweedledee dumber" really.

In Canada the parties are called Conservative and Liberal, but the same rich corporations have Both in their hip pocket, and differences are really window dressing.

You Americans think Republicans are Conservative, and the Democrats are the Liberals. If you analyze either party, you will find both are 99% LAWYERS who serve the rich man's agenda. They just sell their brand differently!!!
