Once the Dalai Lama [His Holiness the 14th] was asked about his take on abortion and homosexuality. He believes abortion is wrong except for a few circumstances where it would save the mother's life or something, and that nature arranged man and woman side-by-side, but as long as homosexuals were not 'engaged in an abusive sexual relationship,' then it might be alright.

I disagree with the abortion thing [pro-choice] and also think that nature also arranged for creatures to be homosexual. There are homosexual animals, and humans have been since the beginning of time--this is just my opinion.

So for Buddhists out there, or anyone of any religion, what is your take on abortion and homosexuality, and WHY?

and also:

" A: When I was in Lithuania a few years ago, I visited a nursery and I was
told, "All these children are unwanted." So I think it is better that that
situation be stopped right from the beginning -- birth control. Of course,
abortion, from a Buddhist viewpoint, is an act of killing and is negative,
generally speaking. But it depends on the circumstances. If the unborn child
will be retarded or if the birth will create serious problems for the
parent, these are cases where there can be an exception. I think abortion
should be approved or disapproved according to each circumstance."

missy-get your facts straight. Buddhism and nihilism are two different things. I do not speak for all Buddhists. I personally, would not vote for a candidate who was pro-life. While I believe abortion is a terrible choice to have to make, I would NOT want it to be illegal. I would prefer providing more sex-education and making birth control free. A relationship between two people who treat each other well and love each other should be respected no matter the gender of the people involved.

I'm debating between polytheism and atheism.
I think abortion should be pro-choice. There are so many different factors in each persons life. However, if the world was perfect, having a child would be a joyous occasion, no matter what (assuming both mother and fetus' health were good), therefore, the mother would feel no shame or embarrassment and the number of absentee fathers would diminish assuming they would feel love and support, also
About homosexuality-if that's the way nature made you, so be it. I'm with the Dali Lama-as long as it's not abusive, live and let live.

Little lady, you sure picked a controversial subject.
My daughter in law is a Buddhist. Her religion allows choice to avoid pregnacy with birth control. Abortion is murder and your decision to keep or adoption is later. Only exception to abortion was if carrying full term was not possible due to death mother. If it was rape, incest, delaying treatments to mother because pregnant, or child will be deformed, retarded, etc.., then it is still to be carried to term or birth. A child is still life & life is a gift to be treasured.

Homosexuality. She personnally does not agree with it. Her Buddhist religion allows anyone to choose their own path and it is not her decision what others pick for their path.

I'm perfectly OK with homosexuality, but with abortion I am a bit divided. If it is in the first trimester it is fine, but after that... the situation would warrant the course of action.

However, I define humanity by its logic and sentience, and since young'uns have not this, I consider them to be little more than (those that have no logic/sentience).

Buddhists would view any act taking a life as wrong. They strive to remove themselves from all forms of earthly desires, so homosexuality, heterosexuality, or bisexuality is not really a concern of theirs.

Abortion is wrong. The only way an abortion should be performed is if it endangers the life of the mother or the child will have severe problems.

People can do whatever they wish with their bodies, and whatever those of others who consent wish.

Abortion is not a choice, it is either a requirement or a murder.

There is no choice if your life is in danger. and if your life is not in danger why kill.

Homosexuality is wrong as the only thing it breeds is horrible disease. 70% of AIDS and HIV Positive people are who had sex with a Homosexual.
