The person whose name is on the check could sign it over to you. However, a lot of places do not accept checks like this. Your best bet is to get the person to cash it and give you the money. If you cannot get the person to do this for you, then you are probably trying to cash the check illegally.

There is no legal way to cash a check that is not in your name. Only the payee on the check can endorse and cash the check. If you endorse it, it's forgery.

Next time, get your check made out to "Cash".
