Try some of these pointers:

- Turn on the sprinklers or spray your dog with a hose each time she starts digging ' this may discourage her from digging if she doesn't like water sprayed on her.

- Digging is often a result of boredom, so keep your dog occupied with other activities.

- Give your dog her own place to dig ' a sandbox or dirt area ' and encourage digging in only that spot by hiding treats for her to find. This allows your dog to enjoy the natural behavior of digging without ruining your yard.

- Keep your dog's sleeping area shaded in hot weather, and supply a wading pool if it's hot outside. Dogs often dig in search of a cool place to lie down.

Dog dig for different reason, looking for a cooler spot (remember they ware fur coats year round), boredom....it's fun

Several of the other answer is good. More toys, more playtime, put treats in one of those roll balls that let the treats fall out. Most dogs and spend lots of time roll that ball. Put rock or foil in the hole before you cover it. Not fun to re dig it.

Take him/her for at least one long walk and exhaust that energized body.

luck

Maybe you have moles in your garden which is also causing your dog to dig up holes all over the show. Some dogs just enjoy digging up holes and others can actually smell the moles and try and dig them up.

My dog had the same problem and well the solution i came up with is really gross but worked. i had a bunny rabbit in a cage that pooped a lot and so i got a good clump of that and put it in the hole and filled it up the dog would stop digging in that spot and after a while it got bored and stopped digging and well the poop is good fertilizer

digging is a sign of boredom or dog's exercise and activities is not enough. Try to give your dog enough exercise or activities that let him tired. Other one is everytime you catch him digging just said "NO!'" so that he realize that his doing bad thing, , just patch all the holes he made. This is part of the owners housetrain.

Watch your dog when you let him/her out. When your dog begins to dig yell a firm "No!" and drag him/her away from the place it is beginning to dig. Make sure to do this every time you see it digging, but not when you don't catch him/her at it. Fill in the hole and cover it. (With sod if its on the grass or with pinestraw/mulch, whatever you use) Good luck and I hope this helps you!!!

When you catch him/her doing it, then distract it from digging by tossing one of his/hers favorite toy in the opposite direction of the digging. If he/she goes after it then praise them. If not, then have a noise maker, like a Pringle's can with some pebbles, marbles, or small rocks in it that you can shake to distract them from doing it while saying in a stern voice "NO!". This worked on my dog, maybe it will work with yours.

Place rocks in the spots where he likes to dig then hopefully he will get in hint as every hole he digs has rocks or bricks in them

The dog is bored, buy him more toys and play with him more often. Give him more room to roam, take him on walks.
