Ive heard that downloading things aren't illegal, or at least you don't get caught as much as if you upload. When downloading on uTorrent, how can i stop the upload part? If you can't turn off the upload, which torrent downloader can?

You should read about how file sharing works, and why its important to upload (seed) what you download. Its people like you who kill the torrent community.

Not all downloading is illegal. Lets say you download a legal file (a homemade movie- not dodgy of course), then you can prevent it from uploading if you either delete the torrent file (not the actual downloaded file) from the upload list or move the file from the location that it was downloaded to. Eg. If all files are downloaded to "My Documents/Downloads" then you move it to "My Documents/Movies" or something. You may have to close uTorrent to do this.

Downloading OR uploading copyrighted material, child porn, etc. is illegal. Its your responsibility to verify what you down/uploading is legal.
