You open them with Bit Torrent, or a number of other programs. They are just little tag files that the Torrent downloader latches onto to find & download the file on the Bit Torrent file sharing network. Just a pointer file for the real shared file.

A .torrent file is an informational file that leads another program to download a much larger file from a variety of sources.

See links below. Be careful, there's a lot of copyright stuff out there. You can get in trouble for uploading or downloading things you shouldn't.

Question is... what kind of file is it first?
as in what search query did you enter on the first place to download it? It can be malicious program or even some corrupted or unrelated files. So u better check.

Anyway u can view any of the torrent files after you've downloaded it. .torrent are actually seeds (of file source) for u to download files via peer to peer programs in form of Bittorrent.
U can google for any programs tht support bittorent e.g. bitcomet, azureus & etc. There's a list of it.
Make sure that .torrent is something u really want. Thn u can proceed to start downloading using those bittorrents support program.

a .torrent file is basically a file that initiates a p2p download using a torrent program. Use something like bitcomet to start the downloads from a .torrent file.
