No, I am not offended nor do I feel the need to defend my beliefs.
I think people are entitled to their belief or non belief in God.

No more than when a person of religious bent tells me that "There is a god." Just a different tune.

Neither one knows for certain, yet each is convinced.

I do like the "I don't know if I am right or wrong, but I believe/disbelieve" crowd however. At least their minds are capable of something approaching rational thought.

Even better is the I don't know and therefore I will wait and see crowd. It is silly to take sides on an issue and be willing to kill for it when the premise can't be proved or disproved.

No everyone's entitled to their opinion. But I do tend to steer away from a religious argument. I have my convictions and everyone else has theirs - I tried to start an intelligent conversation about The Da Vinci Code once (I'm a Catholic by the way - I read the book twice, saw the movie and bought the dvd) and a friend walked out and we haven't spoken since - not that I care that much her brain was shut tight as an oyster. Anyway I steer clear of any religious debate.

That would never personally offend me. Conversely, I hope they're not offended that I believe there is a God.

I'm not offended, for they are entitled to their opinion. But the Bible expressly says, "The FOOL hath said in his heart there is no God." It saddens me that people can take such a stance against Him, but I can understand it on the surface of HUMAN thinking. This is why faith is such a HUGE factor in establishing and maintaining a relationship with God.

I'm not offended; but I also tell them to prove it. After all the science that they like to bring forth usually points out that there is a God.

No.I ask them to prove it to me.In order for an atheist to prove it.It must materialistic.Atheistic thinking requires answers to everything to be materialistic. They cannot cross the line.Until an atheist can prove otherwise I shall continue to believe, because there is nothing and nobody on earth that can answer the challenge of disproving God.If I am wrong ,I stand nothing to lose. When I'm dead,I'm dead. But,if I'm right, then the atheist stands more to lose. Not only will they experience physical death, but they will also experience spiritual death. That is the second death.

I get offended when an Athiest says this to someone who is religious....and I AM AN ATHIEST!!!! I think it's important that we allow everybody to just worship as they choose. I choose not to worship a God...but that doesn't mean I go around insulting those that do.

EDIT: I think this works both ways. I am equally (if not more) offended when I see some Christian extremists outside of abortion clinics dressed as grim reapers, telling the young women entering that they're going to hell.

no. i said it for 27 years. i have a different belief now.

the only time it ever really irritated me was once when there was a prayer request on this site from someone who had a family member that had recently passed away. the person had asked that others would pray for the rest of her family. you would think that people would show some kind of decency, but some distasteful atheist (that is in no way intended to mean that all atheists are crude. i'm wise enough not to speak in absolute terms.) was the first to answer with the remark, ''God is a fairy tale,'' or something to that effect. i would hope you would agree with me that something like that is quite rude to say under such circumstances.

Absolutely not, I believe we all have the right to believe whatever we want, if your offended by that then its your problem.
I am christian and would not want anyone being offended because I disagree with thier beliefs.

No.

Unless the atheist has taken it upon him- or herself to interpose that comment into a conversation between religionists to which he or she is not a party.

And in that case I'd simply be offended by the rudeness of it.
