I've always fancied doing this. I always think there's a cosy little bed in the back somewhere. A radio and lots of books to read . A stash of lovely snacks. A little dog for company and the open road to drive on to get away on my own. If you saw me, you'd laugh at the thought of me being a lorry driver. Maybe I watch too much TV. Oh and all the lovely greasy breakfasts.

What is a Lorry driver? I have heard of an OTR driver, Semi-truck driver, but a Lorry driver is new to me?
I am a transportation dispatcher for the last many years and that is why I am asking?
p.s. being an OTR (Over the Road) truck driver isn't everything it is cracked up to be either. Been there, done that.

not sure what a lorry driver is but if you mean a truck driver and dont mind countlees mile after mile and no real regular sleep pattern or being gone for weeks at a time from family then you sound like you might like it and dont sell yourself short you would be amazed at some of the people driving

You don't have to be any particular "type" to drive a lorry, you know! I've seen ALL kinds of wagon drivers. The money's crap now, apparently, in the UK.

i did it for thirty years and at the start it was geat i was 21 and single but over the years it got worse to much traffic on the roads overdemanding employers and satalite tracking, its worse than working in an office atleast you can go to the loo without being asked why you have stopped you vehicle,to many safety cameras and its not safe to park in laybyes anymore you get your diesel nicked or your curtains cut,to much stress and the money is bad if you think you will be working 70 hours aweek, also you only get 9hours off at night so not much time to read before your off again,my advice DONT DO IT

You forgot about the Yorkie bar.

If you really want to do it, go for it. Live the dream. You would, however, be better off as a train driver. Wages are higher, and there is a superior safety ethic.
