God defined as the one in the OT. The Abraham and Job God.

Science, represented by the men who developed the atomic bomb. The ones who acknowledged that, if they tested their brainchild, it might set fire to the atmosphere of the planet earth.

But tested it anyway.

Job got rid of his sores.
Abraham's kid got a reprieve.
The burst at the Trinity Site didn't turn the earth into a small star.

I'd put them about equal for desirability and trustworthiness.

A bright future? I'll hunker down wish humanity the best of a bad bargain.

How about you?

Uh, nuclear weapons are not the "representative" of all of science. Science cannot be narrowed down so much like that.

"The Abraham and Job God" has killed over 2 million people (I know you won't believe me--check my source, I have proof) either by direct order or direct intervention, according to the Bible. And that's only the ones that are explicitly numbered--remember that the Bible describes him literally murdering EVERY PERSON ON EARTH except for 8 people who were supposed to be the 'champions' of the human race, yet just a few chapters later, their leader (Noah) is dancing around drunk and naked. Some judge of character this God guy is, huh?

But I digress. Faith in imaginary deities, and the false sense of superiority the believers of these religions get from such faith, has caused more conflict and death than just about anything else in this world. But what's the flip side? What's the good part? That false sense of security and hope? That's usually the answer. Yet would you consider it a good thing for a doctor to tell you you're perfectly healthy when in fact you're dying of an easily curable disease?

On the other hand, science has done so much to help us that we take for granted. Even right now, we use the Internet to communicate on a scale that would sound unbelievable even 50 measly years ago. Our modern medicine has raised human lifespan by many years. We can transplant body parts from other people to save lives!

I know very well which one has deserved more of my respect and trust. You can't argue with results--I choose science.

If it weren't for science you would probably be dead right now. If you did survive childbirth and a childhood without inoculations or medical attention you might have died in one of the frequent plagues that we'd be having. Or perhaps an unfriendly neighbor would have accused you of witchcraft and you'd be a nice pile of ashes right now. Assuming you weren't, then you would probably be a nice, happy, parasite-infested, disease-ridden citizen working the soil by hand.

Science has produced some nasty stuff, like nuclear weapons, but it is also to thank for every bit of tangible progress we've made. It's even produced a medium and forum by which those who despise it can complain about it.

God the Creator gave us the ability to make choices and the fate of humanity depends on how we use those choices. First of all, humanity must realize and learn from it's mistakes, then humanity must realize that we are all connected, then humanity must learn respect because all things have a spirit and are connected. The well-being of humanity depends on humanity and so far humanity is not doing a good job.

These quotes come from a book I read:

There is no precept of religion or science that comprehends or properly explains reality—which is things as they were, as they are, and as they are to come. Science is a type of religion, just as religion is a type of science, wherein the mystery of life remains a mystery to those who don’t understand it, but pretend to. The aim of both science and religion is one in the same in trying to come to a logical conclusion about why, how, and when humans came into existence.

There are no mysteries to those who know truth and reality. Mysteries, theories, speculations, vain imaginations, perceptions, opinions, and beliefs are invented by those who do not know how, why, and when life came into existence. Science’s never-ending determination to try to understand and explain reality, leads its followers in a constant race that will continue until One who actually knows what reality is, appears to teach those who seek truth.

Religion is worse than science in its speculative efforts to satisfy the human ego. Religion has created the impetus for people to search how, why, and who they are without having the proper tools to help the people discover the truth for themselves. Religious leaders have convinced their followers that they (“the locusts”) are chosen by God to teach people truth and lead them on the right path. Yet, neither the religions of the world nor any of their leaders have been able to fulfill the covenant of the Father in providing the earth’s inhabitants with the happiness and peace He has promised them.

Religion and science destroy peace and happiness because of the action and precepts of their “locusts and horsemen” who torment the people.

I will keep my eyes on the truth--not on religion OR science.

If you want to read more, the book is at the site below. It tells the truth, and the truth has set me free!!

Science has allowed amputees to be "healed" by re-attachment or transplantation.

There has never been a story of a miracle where an amputee has healed by God... never.

If you ever get severe appendicitis you can ask God to cure you or you can go to a scientifically trained surgeon.

My money's on the scientists.

How about me? I'm a humanist. Here's about me.

Humanism is a philosophy of life inspired by humanity and guided by reason. It provides the basis for a fulfilling and ethical life without religion.

Humanists make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values.
Humanists see no convincing evidence for gods, the supernatural, or life after death.
Humanists believe that moral values are properly founded on human empathy and scientific understanding.
Humanists believe we must live this life on the basis that it is the only life we'll have -- that, therefore, we must make the most of it for ourselves, each other, and our world.
Humanist philosophies have arisen separately in many different cultures over many thousands of years. Whether or not they use the term humanism, tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people around the world agree with the humanist philosophy of living a happy and productive life based on reason and compassion.

it's not a competition. science deals only with the physical world. religion deals with the spiritual world. they are both part of human life, they are both necessary.

the manhattan project scientists didn't think the atmosphere would catch fire, although the did discuss the possibility. and remember that the reason that we built one was that the nazis were working on one too.

Well, considering what happened the last time the churches were in power, I'm sticking with science. The Dark Ages were no fun, and there was no deodorant or A/C.

One simply 'pays ones money and takes ones choice(s.'

God does not apparently return calls, nor (seemingly)makes 'house-calls.' And Science, on the other hand, is invariable 'discovering' them anomalies (again) while rewriting the 2 + 2 does NOT = 4 Totem.

Sash.
