It seems amazing that I'm even asking this. I graduated college, but I'm still working the crappy retail job that I had during those years. I'm starting grad school (an MA program), which restricts what kind of job I can go for... basically, I can't make that much more money than I'm making now, as long as I stay in school.

At the rate I'm going, I'll be broke in about a year and a half. Savings gone, and not making enough money to pay rent, food, and tuition. My job now pays for rent...barely, and I use my savings from my time in the military to cover the rest.

What should I do? I could give up on my dreams and drop grad school to get a full-time job, or give up my self-respect and live with my folks, who are now about a 45-min commute from my university.

Right now I'm going to go as long as the savings will hold me, but I'm starting to see the writing on the wall... Wouldn't I be a 25-yr old loser if I lived with my folks again?

Education is the most important thing you can ever do for yourself in this life. I say go for the MA and endure living at home for that duration. In the long run you wont regret it.

Pride is a destructive thing, don't let it kill your dreams. Right now you are only seeing negatives and its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have twin daughters about your age and this is what I would advise them. While its not the most wonderful solution all around, its certainly a solution that would benefit you. Now this is assuming that you aren't a pain to live with, and your folks aren't either. Pack it up and go home until you are done with grad school. Concentrate on that and see if you can get out earlier. Grad school for most programs are about 2years and you can deal for that two years out of necessity.

Don't quit, it will be the biggest mistake in your life just for how it looks to everyone else. Everyone else doesn't have your dream and they aren't walking in your shoes. Ignore them and do what's right for yourself, especially if you have parents who will be supportive. Good luck.

I say suck it up and live with the parents because you will save money that you sound like you might need later on. So what you live with your parents, i know people that are like 28 and still living with their parents... so what? Just save up enough money while you are in grad school then move out again... or try to find a cheaper place to live, like a studio or room for rent, not an apartment or something...

Nope, not at all I am sure they would be glad to have you back at home. You are at least trying and with school and working is very hard to do (been there done it) I know where your coming from and I believe your parents will too. Go back home even if you stay there till you finish school. Nothing wrong with that. What I did was pay something for food and telephone. Go for it. Don't be too hard on yourself. and good luck in your schooling.

What is the point of going to grad school right now if you are going to be broke? NONE! You will hate it if you move back. Once again it will be your parents home, there rules. Do you really want to go back to that. There are jobs out there that can support you. You can also taking it slower towards your MA.

No you wouldn't. 25 is still young. If you wanted to move back with your parents at 40, then maybe, but no. I think it would be a good idea for you to get where you want to be.

I think it will be fine if you move in with your parents until your school is done with.
