I posted a question using the 80% Christian population. I do have links to back it up but this is a stat that I also got from OTHER Christians on this site when using the arguement that we are a Christian Nation and that the world is mainly Christian. I don't think those numbers are right, but I digress.
After posting this, I was told by CHRISTIANS that the number isn't correct ad that the number of Christians is MUCH lower. So if its MUCH lower then why all the ruckus about being a Christiant nation????

Oh no, that is what is so funny. Some of those claiming that the 80% stat is too high are people who have screamed on this site that we are a majority Christian nation.

This is not a Christian nation. No nation is a "christian" nation.

Well, there is no ruckus, we are a Christian Nation and always have been. The percentage is closer to 90% though, I believe. The biggest amount of new citizens are from Mexico, 99% Catholic.

Being a Christian Nation does not mean that our government is run as a Christian government, only that our country is a majority Christian.

Btw, all the presidential candidates on both sides claim Christianity, why do you think that is?

I'm going to guess that the same Christians that are claiming that the percentage of Christians in this country is lower and those claiming this is a Christian nation aren't the same, or at least aren't using the two in the same sense. We are a Christian nation only in so far as our nation was founded on Christian principles by men who were more often than not seeking to live out their Christian faith.

This may be a Christian Nation today but it was not intended to be this way by our founding fathers. I have no doubt they would despise the ignorant fundies as much as I do.

I believe there are roughly 1.8 billion Christians world wide, or something close to that.

Added: Oh I didn't see the irony at first, but you are right. It is actually quite funny.

The wikipedia says 79.8 % say they are Christian in 2001.

I find it hysterical, and irony and hypocrisy is rampant amongst many Christians today...as for the U.S.A being a Christian nation, it's a secular nation...but let them think what they want to think..

When you are fighting a desperate rearguard action you will stoop to any dishonesty, hypocrisy and double standard to protect your beliefs, which sadly I realise are sincerely held.
