Anyone who has had an OCONUS military move that knows about the financial allotments? I read somewhere about one that allots for a house hunting trip in your new location. The depth of an OCONUS move is so deep that I feel overwhelmed with all the information. Just having a hard time weeding through everything. It would be really nice if I could take a trip there first to try to find off post housing. Thanks in advance for any help.

TAKE the Smooth Move Workshop offered on base via FFSC or the equivalent.

as far as getting Househunting prior, won't happen, but you are alloted 30 days TLA/TLE(instead of the ten you get CONUS)

Finding housing on the economy OCONUS is harder and requires more effort than stateside. Where are you going? in some places, you aren't ALLOWED to live off base, depending on paygrade, or even if you are considered critical to the command. In other places( Germany springs to mind) the servicemember must secure housing before the family is allowed to come over.. and that can be a six month wait.

you will be required to attend a housing briefing at the new duty station once you get there, and then you can start looking for a place to live.

You need to get some advice from Family Support (a.k.a. Family Readiness). They have classes that you can take for such a move. They will let you know EVERYTHING you need to know.
As for house hunting, I haven't heard such a thing. I know you get priority on Space A flights, but that is about it.
As for the pay, you are talking about COLA pay. This is extra in addition to your regular check.

Good luck!
