I don't mean 'f-a-g' as 'gay' but I mean how do Americans call cigarette left-overs...you know, once you smoke it, how do you call what's left of it?

Yes, in the UK, the whole cigarette is also called a f-a-g. (Yahoo! keeps on censoring it...LOL)

People that smoke regular cigs, throw away a partial used cigarette, it is called a cigarette butt. If you smoke dope, and have a little leftover, it is called a "roach"(wouldnt think an old granny would know that would you?)
If you look up the word ****** in the dictionery, it refers to a bundle of sticks, perhaps a fag is a small twig, thus, resemble the cigarette?
Anyone that uses the word FAG in the wrong context should be beat with a ****** !!!!
There is a company close to Joplin Missouri, it is called FAG bearings, everytime we would pass the company, my youngest son always had some smart remark to make about it, until he learned exactly what gay and fag referred too. Then he got a good understanding of peoples lifestyle choices, he never made fun of it again, and was very kind to some of the gay teenagers in his school, where some always gave them grief. Words can be so mean sometimes....even the way they are said!

Usually a smoked cigarette is called the butt. Special words for cigarettes change all the time and from place to place. I've heard people ask for the last drag of your cigarette by saying "can you give me your shorts". I've heard cancer sticks, a grip, a smoke and things like that for a full cigarette.

We don't have a way to ask for a lit cigarette like you do in England, so we can tell the following lame joke: (After I gave you a cigarette, and you ask for a light): Do you want me to smoke it for you too?

Actually, Brits call the whole cigarette a "f.ag," not just the 'left-over.'

Generally, the 'remains' of a cigarette are called a "butt" in the US.

American slang for cigarette is 'square', 'smoke' and cigarette leftover is 'butt', 'roach'

"John, throw the butt away, I'll give you a new square" (John, throw the cigarette leftover away, I will give you a new cigarette")

It is called, believe it or not, a cigarette butt.
I kid you not.
That is also one of our words for the human, um, posterior.

It makes some of us laugh when we see signs that say, "Please pick up your butts, don't leave them lying on the ground." :o)
