Me & my girlfriend are going there as a late deal in September 2007. I have heard reviews on websites saying that there was broken glass on the floor, the bathroom was dirty and people shouting down the corridors at 1am! Plus I have been told that the bar is a 'free bar' on the Friday and Saturday night from 6pm to midnight. Is this true at all?

Never been there but a hotel which is ran that way will never stay open in Belgium! We are quite strict with our regulations!
There's one in Aalst also...this one is the the brochure of one of Belgium's biggest tour operators and no way they would affiliate with a bad hotel!
The one in Oostende seems very nice! (see link below)...they have heaps of conference rooms and I assure you, if it wouldn't be OK it would never survive on the market.
About the "free bar" thing...if you mean to say that from 6pm everybody can have a drink there (even people who don't have a room there), I'd say that's very much possible. But it's not that uncommon in Belgian hotels, especially one the coast. But not to worry, as someone else already said, we don't mock around and our police will act appropriately.

Royal Astrid Hotel Oostende. Wouldn't worry, on their web site overall review is 7.8 and a lot of the negative reviews were a bit petty. No mention of what you have heard about. Guy VS has put a link on his reply, the reviews are on there.

is it Brussels or Ostende?they are both different and in different city's???cant see that in Belgium them getting away with that,maybe these people then had a bad time a one off cant see Belgains putting up with that behaviour,the police would not stand for that its not like here the police are armed and don't put up with riff Raff????

i've found some reviews that seem reasonable for a ***-hotel on http://www.hotels.nl/oostende/royalastrid/
i don't think you should worry - just go and enjoy your stay!

This hotel in Ostende has a very good reputation, so don't believe everything what ...... are telling you!
