Your friend was probably confounding "Führer" with "Fürst".
"Fürst" can be translated as "lord", indeed. "Führer" means "leader" or even "driver". That´s why a driving license is called "Führerschein" in German.

Yes, the German word "Fuhrer" does mean leader, yet it is a long way away from "Lord". The verb "fuhren" means "to guide","to lead", hence Hitler's nickname, because he was the soldiers' leader. However, if you lead a group of people, you are definitley not a lord.
In my opinion, your friend is wrong and the words "Fuhrer" and "Herr" (lord) are totally different and should not be mixed up.

it pretty much means leader in english. not so much, lord so refering to hitler a fuhrer would make sense, the word fuhrer also is close with meaning commander, scoutmaster, driver, chief, guide. so leader would make the most sense.

they refured to hitler as fuhrer.. maybe it means lord, i'm not completely sure. It is possible they did call him their lord at the time because they were so scared of him. Hitler was a short austrian retard who pretended to be a real german.

Führer means leader or guide. Hitler was referred to as "Der Führer"="THE leader" and/or "THE guide"here the double meaning is interesting - he is not only explaining the direction but also leads on (and unfortunately too many followed).
