So I just saw this answer: "You have to have the mentality of a 5 year old to believe in God."
I believe in God. And that didn't offend me at all. I just immediately assumed she wasn't talking about me. It's those OTHER god-believers that are stupid.
Or is it me?

"Not only that--count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable.

No, you are right to not be offended. Others can't determine your self worth, only you can. You know you don't have the mentality of a 5 year old, you hold your beliefs because of the things you learned and are secure in them. That does not mean that others may not have the mentality in question, but you know for yourself that you don't. It isn't you, and you are actually smarter than a lot of other people who would personalize that statement to mean themselves. You are a much more complete person. Never let anyone determine your self worth for you. It's okay to listen to other's perspectives so that you can analyze your own beliefs, but never let them determine your self worth.

You don't have to have the mentality of a 5 year old you just have to be very narcissistic. Everyone wants to believe that they're special and that out of this big huge universe there's some God who loves us and has a plan for us. People don't want to think that we're just like every other species, we live, we die and there's nothing special about us

Considering there is no proof for or against a god, I think the people who hands down KNOW there Isn't a god are just as ignorant as the people who KNOW there Is one.
I don't think your stupid ;-).
Now, for some of the fairy tales they tell in Bible school you do need to have the mentality of a 5 year old to believe, if you ask me.

Statements like that used to offend me. A week in R&S will harden you to that, though. There's no point in being offended if the person obviously doesn't care enough to get to know someone before making a judgment on their intelligence.
I used to get upset because I thought that they all saw me that way, but now I have respectful relationships with quite a few atheists on this website.

Don't be offended by the ignorance of others, seems like in this category you ask a serious question and a lot of people fly off the handle for no reason. People are free to believe as they wish...............the only people who are stupid are those who ridicule those for believing in something.

POINT of holiness with sobriety is never ever get off ended; Rather stay focused on the end already written, the end that God declared from the beginning, the end we're told to endure unto to be saved(only) by grace(only); For the law is notably against you all, and it's the ministration of death.
The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I saw it too. It was the capitalized Christian God I'm sure. I really don't want to offend you.
I'm loving the Christians that are defending you like you are one of them though! Can you people read?

They have the mentality of a 5 yrs. old, if they can't see the beauty that God has created for all to see. They don't understand the tranquility and peace we feel and trust in our Lord.
Ignore those people or just give your suggestions, we may succeed in getting some of them to rethink the way they think.
To just help save one soul is just a super blessing, that nobody could describe.

No, you're sensible. People that get offended hold their beliefs by a thread. Those that know what they believe as truth, and understand their own beliefs, tend to be less caustic in their discussions on here.
