Yeah, if you replace a meal with a cigarette, you're going to lose weight. But in the long run, cigarettes will do more damage than food.

I lost weight AFTER I quit smoking. I also quit eating mass amounts of pure junk, too. I examined what I was doing and eating and not doing and eating. It's been two and a half years and I'm healthier than ever. My husband's sister and They both look physically older than what they are, my husband's sister has hair that doesn't just look thin, but actually looks as though it's thinning. I'm seven and a half months pregnant and I've only gained about 20 pounds due to good eating of whole foods. Both of the aforementioned women look much more pregnant than me, but they also consume mass amounts of stuff I wouldn't even classify as food. (They consider things like meat and processed cheese on white bread with mayonnaise healthy. I would only touch it if I were starving to death and the life of my child was at risk.) Actually, my 21-y-o SIL (my husband's younger sister) also has a round belly from poor eating habits. Yes, she has gone vegetarian, but she also still eats fully hydrogenated potato chips, large muffins and other stuff I wouldn't consider food. Then wonders why she's fat.
I can't stand to be around the two who smoke. They REEK. I suppose on a technicality that the stale smoke on their hair and clothing pose no harm to my child, but I just literally can't breathe when I am near them. I don't go into my BIL's house because it reeks. Before my pregnancy, I just made an excuse the last time my husband visitied them. I sat in the car saying that I have not had any time to myself that day and needed some private time to chill. It was true, though. Now, though, I think my BIL knows why I won't go into the house. Both women smoked before, during and after their pregnancies (indoors, around their children) and wonder why their children have health problems (again, the children's poor diets don't help either).
If you want to risk your health and ostracize people, then go for it. However, if you're looking to date, I don't know of many men who find smoking attractive.
If you try eating real food (food that God made in nature, not man in a laboratory) and being active, you'll have success. Yes, I was on the thin side when I smoked, but I certainly wasn't healthy. I smoked in high school and I currently still weigh less (at seven and a half months pregnant) than what I did then. Also, I'm a zillion times healthier.

I'm not sure about losing weight but I used to be a smoker myself and it definitely curbed my appetite. I quit smoking when I was pregnant with my 2 daughters they're 3 years apart and after having them I started smoking again. I managed to go back to my normal size/weight within a year. About 3 years ago I had my son and haven't started smoking yet and I don't have the body I had after having my daughters so I think smoking does do something lol.

smoking increases your mentabolism which helps you to loose weight (through higher metabolism). But some food like coffee have been know to also increase metabolism with no known effects on weight control. Besides, the negative effect of smoking - direct introduction of free radicals - such as premature skin agging, 'smoker's fingers' and the higher risk of cancer sure puts down smoking as a mean to loose weight.

In a way, yea, I guess it does. People that quit smoking put on weight because they kill their urge to smoke by eating but for people that smoke sometimes smoking replaces excessive eating so in a sense yes smoking will make you eat less excessively and hence not gain so much weight

No. The only reason you gain weight if you quit is because you're losing a habit and something your body wants, and you perceive that feeling as hunger. Kind of like eating when you're bored.

It can because you think about nicotine instead of food but its worse than being a little over weight. Its so not worth it.
