I have just sent in an application to become a US citizen. I may have to leave the country for a while due to unforeseen circumstances in my home country, I will probably change my address to a friends address where he can get any paperwork the INS may send regarding my status. Are there any repercussions for doing this? Is it ok to do this or not. Please help. Thanks.

It should not but you will need to call them prior to your leaving. If they send you a letter to set up for fingerprinting, you cannot miss it. The only thing that can be rescheduled is your interview, and you can do that ONE TIME ONLY. If you miss it, you will have to start the process all over again from scratch, if you are not disqualified totally. It is not an easy thing to do. I am sorry to hear about your problems overseas. Hopefully, it will resolve itself soon. Good luck.

Call your local office of one of your Senators or your Congressman. Talk to their caseworker who can help and advise you for free. They may also be able to help expedite the situation for you. Good luck.
