The answer to your question is no. The reason for taking shoes off at the cell door is purely down to the fact that you cannot have laces or cords in your cell for obvious reasons. Therefore if you have slip on shoes without laces then you can keep them on.
Britplod - I appreciate your comments but we don't make people take their shoes off when it comes to their measuring hieght (unless of course he / she is in stilettos). Its not necessary to be that accurate. As for people kicking off then and having to be carried into a cell, I would agree their shoes are taken off.

This would really be down to local policy and the custody Sergeant who's looking after the health and welfare of the prisoner. Where I work all prisoners have to remove their shoes when they go into a cell, regardless of how long they are staying.

Yes,
It is for health and safety reasons. You might try and self harm or use the shoes to damage the cell, or use them to attack the next person who opens the cell door.

Depending on what agency. They have to provide you with some type of footwear...or there are others agencies that would ask u to take off ur shoes and shake it off for contrabands...then unlaced your shoes (for safety purposes)before entering the cell.

Bear is right, but I would have said... Yes. The reason being that obvioulsy we don't want people trying to harm themselves, but just through force of habit we have all people brought into custody take their shoes off. Firstly it lets us measure them properly, and they are less likely to harm an offcie by kicking if they ''kicked off''!

Yes, and that should be the least of your worries as far as having to take things off. You'll probably be strip searched too and possibly subjected to a body cavity search....

No. Often you will be able to remove your shoelaces and keep the shoes themselves if you will be staying a short time.

Yes, For a couple reasons. 1) They wanna make sure you don't have any weapons. 2) Shoelaces are a way to hang yourself.
