I had one that was not overweight at all. I know Siamese and other pure breds are prone to diabetes. Symptoms my cat showed were lack of energy, glazed over and hazy eyes, constant drinking, and frequent urination. I had to change the litter 3 times as much because she would pee so often. A normal life is possible. Mine lived for 6 years after she was diagnosed...almost a full life span for a cat. Bad part was that I was in college and had to be home every twelve hours to give her the insulin shots.

There type 1 and type 2 Diabetics.
excessive drinking of water
weight loss
increase and decrease of appitite
vomiting
weakness of hind legs
Bad breath
I hope your kitty will be ok.
My Siamese cat was Diabetic and I had to withdraw from college because I had to give my cat her shot at 7:00pm and thats when my class had started. I had made up my mind that my cat came first before my class did and my cats life was more important and I wish She never got sick. I miss her very much.

My cat has diabetes. The first thing we noticed was that he lost a lot of weight....alot! He drank water continously and kept throwing up after he ate. He is insulin dependant. You still might ask your vet as there are two types of diabetes.

My cat, Chili, got really agitated (personality change)
ate alot more than usual, and drank way more than is
normal for a cat.
A trip to the vet's is necessary, because excessive thirst can
also be a sign of kidney problems.
A cat's insulin/blood sugar is harder to regulate than humans.
Diabetes must be managed with vet's supervision.

If it is type one, it would drink alot of water and loose alot of weight, it would urinate alot and look sick.
If it is type two, the same things as type one only it would seem that sometimes the cat woud 'faint' or look like it's in shock. Ask your vet to make sure.
