Sit down on the floor with your back against something. Keep you cat between your knees and place your left hand over the top of her head and tilt her head back. Place your thumb and forefinger in the corner of either side of her mouth and her mouth should open. Then quickly place the pill all the way back in the throat.
When I first started having to give my cat pills I used a pill popper that you can get from any pet supplies store. It looks like a long syringe that you use to put pills into the back of their throats with.
If you cat has claws and she gives you a hard time you can wrap her in a towel.
I tried the whole treat thing with my cat and she ate around the pills every time. Just keep trying to see what works best for you and your cat.

jellbz has a great answer. I just want to add that if the pill is large or odly shaped, or has sharp corners because it was cut in half, the pill goes down easier if it is coated in butter. It does take practice to get the pill coated in butter and not stick to your fingers but once you get it at the back of kitty's throat, it just slides right down. You might even be able to do this with olive oil and have even better success (although it won't taste as good as the butter).

Depends on how patient you want to be. I tried hiding mine in turkey, butter, wet cat food, cheese... the list goes on and on. The cat would eat around the pill every time. Or, he would figure out there was a pill in there and spit it out. Well, the cat needed her pill, so I had to force her. I gently gripped the back of her head, squeezed and forced her jaw open, then popped the pill down the back of her throat and rubbed her neck until she swallowed it. She was annoyed with me for a minute, but she got over it pretty fast. It didn't hurt her to do it like that, but time was running out (she needed them at certain times) so I did what I had to do. I spent over an hour trying to trick her but she outsmarted me every time.
Good luck.

stick them in some pieces of turkey to hide the pills. It may take a few tries but eventually it works. Cats love turkey.
Hope it helps

Put the pills in a piece of meat that would hide it or a treat. Most of the time they don't even notice that they are taking pills because of the food.

Easy as pie way: get a 'pill shooter' or 'pill gun' from your vet's office. (They'll probably just give you one) It has a rubbery tip slit in half that holds the pill. You put it down their throat and push the plunger to get it out of the rubber tip. It is SO easy and you don't risk being bitten. If you get it back far enough, they don't even know you sneaked something in there! It's a life saver.

Put the pill in a very small piece of cheese or something else that she will eat.
The best way to give a pill to a cat, if you can do it, is to use your finger to poke it into her throat, and then blow in her face. Blowing will cause her to swallow, and wa la! The pill is gone.

there's a few ways.
recomended way:
cut the pill up into pieces that are easy to swollow (depending on the size of your cat/pill)
with one hand on the top of her head and a thumb and a finger in the 2 corners of her mouth.
push your thumb and finger in between her back teeth so her mouth with open without any force. (she'll start sticking out her tongue)
stick the pill as far into back at her throat as you can. (now she's annoyed! so do this last bit fast.)
with the hand that's on her head, remove your thumb and finger and hold her mouth shut (don't use force, just firmly.)
don't hold on to her nose, palm on top of head, thumb and 1 finger under her mouth (chin)
with your other hand rub her throat in a downward stroking motion.
(i recomend this way cos if she spits it out u can try again with the same pill and she isn't over/under medicated. once you get used to doing it the right way, she won't spit it out but it's a good method for 1st timers.)
another method:
crush the pill up with water, fill a syringe. used the same method above. (I don't really like this way cos sometimes it make my cats splutter or cough.)
variations:
warp in a piece of food (doesn't work for my cats, they just eat around it or not eat it...
crush into food (some cats just don't eat, they can smell the medication)
another good trick, if you have animal vitamins that come in a paste form in tubes (popularly "chocolate flavoured"):
squeeze a tiny bit of paste onto a spoon and mix well with the crushed pill. with your finger stick a small lump of paste onto her nose.
she'll be annoyed but she'll lick it off her nose, pill and all.
keep doing this in small lumps till she gets her entire pill.

You should probably crush them up and stir them into some wet food. My cat won't take whole pills either.
