Way too much. My best was the guy who, after I pulled him over turned off the car and got into the passengers seat. He claimed he was not driving at all and was parked there when I stopped him.

Might have worked had I not had the video camera on at the time. He actually took it to court(Pre-lim) and it was the first time I ever had a Defense Attorney apologize to me for his client's stupidity and wasting my time.

Probably everyone of them. It is the nature of a portion of the people they come into contact with. But they all expect to be lied to and part of the job is to recognize a lie or to ask the right questions to determine it is a lie and go from there.

But I am sure that the person who posted the original question has no problem with people lying to police - they think that is perfectly acceptable. But they think it is wrong if they perceive a cop is lying. Funny isn't it.

People lie about all kinds of things. Too many to even start!

Yes, suspects lie to cops more often than the other way around. But it's actually illegal for a civilian to lie to a cop in many jurisdictions, and you can get arrested for that alone. Whereas cops are allowed to lie in the course of their investigations, or for any reason at all for that matter. Why the double standard?

Every cop who has spent an hour on the street has been lied to.

EVERYONE lies to the police. Suspects, victims, witnesses, citizens, complainants, and people who ask for directions are included. Cops nearly always have to dig deeper to find the truth, because the first story is never the true one.

All law enforcement officers have been lied to at one time or another by people they come in contact with. Almost every officer that has ever made a traffic stop has heard "I wasn't speeding", or "I left my license at home", or "I only had 2 beers"(the most common!!).

Been lied to...HAHAHA all the freaking time! My favorite was a male and female were trespassing at a park at like 2am. They claimed the female just had a seizure but they were there smoking crack (thus the broken crackpipe on the ground less than 3 ft away). Neither one has ID on them. The female gives me her name, date of birth, and social...she's wanted. The male gives me a name, date of birth, and social...wanted. Get back to my car to verify they are who they say they are while they are detained on the possibility of warrants. The female had given me her correct information. The male didn't. He gave me information for a guy who was 100lbs lighter and 2-3 inches shorter! I finally get his correct name cause he's telling me "I lied to you. I ain't got no warrants but I was scared I'm ______ ______...check and see" I check my computer and sure enough he tells me the truth this time. But wait he has a warrant to and for what...Cocaine possession. Cause that broken crack pipe wasn't theirs they swore it! LOL

I'm married to a cop, and believe me, he's heard all sorts of 'excuses'. Like drunk guy crashes motorcycle in front of him but claims he wasn't driving. Riiiiiiiight.
