I'm a Christian who believes in free speech and separation of church and state. I wish there wasn't silly books like the da vinci code but at least it is making people think about faith and getting a debate in the public arena . We should respect peoples rights to believe what they want and that includes Muslims but you have to respect democracy and free speech . As a Christian i follow the teachings of Jesus who states to love all and respect the law and spread the word with love and example.

Most Christians understand that simple concept that violent-seeming mob-like protests against such things make those involved look like intolerant bigoted fanatics. This contradicts the "Islam is the religion of peace" message that you Muslims seem to wish to promote. The "fatwa" against Salman Rushdie only worsened the public perception of Islam.
We Christians try to answer such slurs against our faith by debate, peaceful protest and writing books to challenge and correct such flawed ideas, "turning the other cheek" as we were instructed to do. We can actually use such works of fiction to encourage interest in the truth of our religion. Shortly after "The DaVinci Code" film was published my church made a public presentation to address the inaccuracies in the book, which attracted a lot of non-Christian interest, and a few visitors have since become Christians.
We were told by Jesus himself to expect to be hated and mocked for our beliefs, but also to love those who persecute us.

what is the point of been pathetic over a film or something like that. Life is to short to be worrying abou s**t like that, who cares what people say, it makes no difference what so ever. I think that some religions get worked up over nothing and it just causes trouble, christians do the same in some countries! I'm not religious so really i dont care and i must say the da vinci code is a good film!

Good question. Nobody can generalize why Christians as a whole, do not stand up for their faith. As a Christian myself, I see how different the world is, and often become overwhelmed with the fear of persecution. It is the human nature taking over, making me timid. Also, many Christians are not very devout in their faith, other than going to church. I think one of the biggest misconceptions is that we think that their is a limited amount of space.
Even though we are of different beliefs, I appreciate your question all the same.

Because our society evolved, we've learned that the only place for religion lies in the hearts and minds of the individual. And it is the choice of the individual to follow their religion. Freedom and liberty are our core values. Christianity no longer governs our society. And as far as I'm concerned, it is to the benefit of all. Perhaps the Islamic world will evolve, but given it's conduct, it's going to be a painfully slow process!

Yes, book burning worked great for the Nazi's, well done Muslims. Any one who disagrees with you should be threatened with death, its gained the respect of the world now we don't think you're all ignorant peasants at all.
My father's side of the family is Muslim, but luckily they are actually educated which seems like a rarity amongst those idiots who go rioting about a cartoon or threaten authors with fatwas.

I personally watch such films so I can talk about them with non believers and engage in conversations that are relevant. There are often Christian themes in films or books or even shows like Doctor Who that can open up great conversations. Saint Paul said he became all things to all men so he might save some. If you cut yourself off from the things that are important to people, you can't reach them.

This is a very good question. I often think of it every time I log into here and read the animosity. Partly is because Christianity is not a strong enough religion combined with western thought to hold the masses of people. In short, the world of Islam in the Mid-East, they've got nothing but the religion. Look at that lifestyle there. The majority of Muslims here in America are moderates, not the radical element.

Yeah go on christians stand up for your faith. Go and blow people up when they don't agree with your faith; have demonstrations every time someone says something against islam; stone your women.
What a crock of sh!t. The world is in a bad enough state with out muslims encouraging christians to become more violent than they already are.
