i work in a bakery and yesterday at work i was slicing dough when i sliced my left index finger. the slice starts from the first place you can ben your finger and goes up to right under where the nail begins...the slice goes downwards so it gets kind of deep. I just woke up and the tip of my finger is kind of numb. is it infected?

Probably not. But I daresay it is very uncomfortable.

Did you rinse the area off with cold water, then wash it with soap? You may want to put an ointment like Neosporin on it and cover it with a bandaid.

Good luck!

The numbness is from a severed nerve or nerves,
If it is red or inflamed or warm then it is infected
It sounds like you should have it looked at by a doctor as these things can cause on going problems later if not treated right such as stiffness in finger or permanent nerve damage. As it was done at work it should be covered by the employers accident insurance

You should have gone to a doctor as soon as it happened. When I was a baby part of one of my fingers got cut off, but it was sewn back on quickly enough that it didn't suffer any nerve damage. It's probably too late for you, but you at least need stitches and will probably need something to put on it, because it will get infected if it hasn't already.
