And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat” (Leviticus 26:29). “And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters” (Deuteronomy 28:53). “And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them” (Deuteronomy 28:57). “And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend” (Jeremiah 19:9). I knew they were in a strange cult with all the blood offerings and their god needing the blood of a human(jesus) to make everything okay......but this is going to far! How can they believe in such a sick god?

Yes, these lines were taken out of context. But why a holy book would have these kind of words in it? The Bible should be rated X for violence and sexual contents. It is fortunate that the Bible is so difficult to read that you don't see kids reading it like a Harry Potter novel.

Read Exodus. Didn't God tell Moses to kill every woman and children, so that the Jews could have the promise land?

It is funny. Atheists claim, and often rightfully so, that they are people of reason, honesty, and logic. Then someone like you comes on here.

You are taking all these verses completely out of context. Now, I know a lot of Christians do the same thing, but that does not make it right or logical. Not a single one of these verses means what you are trying to present them as meaning. In fact, all three examples you give are God chastising the Hebrews for turning away from him. They are being criticized for doing these things. So the Bible is ultimately AGAINST what you are trying to say it is FOR. That is a really misleading and weak argument you are making.

So the only thing you are justifying is your own ignorance. I know that I get frustrated when bizarre, right-wing fundamentals go around misquoting the Bible and making Christians look bad. I'll bet the more intelligent and wise atheists feel the same way about idiots like yourself.

I agree with an previous answerer; this is blatently out of context. Here, God warns the Jews (NOT the Christians) that should they commit future repeated abominations (i.e. paganism, adultry, refusing to follow the Law, etc.) that they would be suffer greatly.

The fulfillment of these very real threats may be found in the books of Jeremiah and Ezekiel. During the siege of Jerusalem, no food could enter. People were forced to kill their sons and daughters, and to eat the dead, for food. It was a horrible time, but they were warned many times beforehand by God.

It is called the Old Testament for a reason.

You have to consider the state of the world at the time.

Look at how far we have come not without God, we kill our own innocent children before they have a chance to live.

You might try the New Testament first, along with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Peace be with you!
