think of your body as the soil of the earth we so often neglect our bodies especially in this fast paced day, but if you were a farmer and living off the soil and you knew if you didn't rest it the 7th year or it would grow very very poor fruit and crops, you would definitely rest it, so God wants us at least every 7 days to rest, stop, I know, I lost my health completely to not stopping, I went to church and then the rest of the day kept at my horridly high pace single parenting and teaching and now retired at 56 with no money nor health, Too bad I didn't "rest the crops"

The seventh day , the seventh month and seventh year was supposed to be dedicated for God. The practical wisdom however of resting the land on the seventh year is that continuous use of the land for farming will deplete the land of its nutrients. The longer you successively use the land the lesser would be its productivity. Resting it for a year ensures a new surge of soil vitality that enhances better and sustainable productivity. This is the most intelligent use of the land to make it sustainable.

It was for the soil to regenerate itself....and to allow the poor to eat from whatever happened to grow there in the vineyard and on the olive trees. Whatever the poor left behind, then the wild beasts got it. After 7 cycles of 7 years, the 50th year was called a Jubilee.

The more you use the land, the more nutrients are taken out of it. Therefore, it needs a time of rest and restoration in order to produce a great harvest with lots of vitamins and also great taste. Many farmers apply this principle, farming only part of their land and allowing other parts to rest. However, many do not. Unfortunately, in our day, in many occupations, it is more about the money than it is about quality.

It's meant for farming the land. The nutrients in the dirt are all used up by then and resting (not planting) allows it to recuperate. Today we do alternate crops yearly and unfortunately allot of fertilizers. Example of alternating is corn in the left field and soybeans in the right one this year and opposite next year (soybean roots also pump nitrogen into the dirt).

It's an instruction for farmers. We figured it out shortly after we started tilling the soil. Trust you to come up with some "spiritual significance".

Isn't this obvious? really?
Just as shabbat was created that the efforts of humans should cease periodically in order to maintain their health and productivity, and conserve our resources, the labors of the earth should be suspended in order to maintain it's health and productivity, and conserve it's resources.
It's quite clear, thus I am not certain what the question is?

Yes it is true.
Land also needs rest. Every farmer knows this.

Further proof that those who wrote the bible had no grasp of the world beyond their own limited experience of it. Some crops must be rotated every year to avoid diseases. If you waited seven years, it would be too late.

I don't know much about farming but........it certainly helped the land to rest from harvesting.
Just as God rested on the 7th day, so should man do the same.
