You're supposed to get a loving partner for life out of it. Someone who will always be there for you and who you can trust and is always on your side. Its hard to find though.

Companionship. Divorce is common but you have to look at the history of the people married. There are a variety of reasons why divorces happen. A relationship works as long as both feel that they are having their needs for companionship met - some may be for sex, love, someone there at night - and divorce is more predominent when that need is no longer being fulfilled. As a person ages though the need for companionship increases and the chances of needing new partners decreases because the familiarity is pleasent and nice. Even the older guys who are running around looking for someone are really afraid of being alone. It is the ones who are not worried about being alone that never settle down and that is because they prefer having their own space to themselves.

Connection, affection, comfort, love returned, togetherness, not having to face a problem alone, support, strength, encouragement, the list goes on. I always thought this kind of relationship was a fairytale but a friend continues to amaze me with her insight into her fiancee. They really are living proof that communication means everything in a relationship, and while they are by no means perfect they are perfect for each other. I only hope I can find that : )

You learn what you like, what you don't like, what personality types you fit well with, which ones you don't, etc.
With every girl there is things I enjoy... some qualities are found in some.. and some lack certain qualities I find imperative which I didn't know existed until I dated a girl with them.
In the end, certain things from each relationship stick to you ultimately molding you into a better person (sometimes) with more experience.
Think of it like being a car owner. The more cars you own... the more you are knowledgable about certain features and what you like. If you've only owned 1 car all your life... then its hard to say if you like a sunroof... where you like your windshield wipers.. etc.

Relationships are about giving, not getting. That's why the divorce rate is so high. Unconditional love is very rare

Usually what one gives or puts into it.
Unfortunately, love is not always returned in kind. When it is, that should be enough.
If you are speaking of things given in a relationship, don't always expect a return. And, one cannot buy love.

I look for the guy to be complimentary .. in other words his weakness's are my strenghts and vice versa. I don't look for temporary fun, it's very hollow when its over and boring.
