It's the same with anything. Companies are making $$$ and don't care how they do it...They will pimp your kids, your pets, anything...You just have to face up to the fact that being a responsible parent is not a popularity contest.....

Girls are driven in their impulse to get the maximum attention from males they can, or at least that's how it seems sometimes. Many of them don't take the time to evaluate whether it's good attention or not. Younger teenaged girls especially tend not to be mature enough to make a wise, responsible decision about this.
Girls can be very attractive and downright stunning without overtly flaunting their goods. I'm a guy, and I think a girl leaving things to the imagination--being modest and mysterious--is very, very attractive. Girls think they aren't contributing to the problem by dressing immodestly, but, as I like to say, no rain drop thinks it's responsible for the flood.
I am not a parent, and I don't know much about the proper way to raise a child, especially a teen. However, I'd encourage you to firmly tell your daughter that she's not going to be wearing stuff like that. Don't make a scene, but let her know this is a place where you draw the line. She may resist you, but it will be for her good.

Well, it is certainly currently a fashion thing, but personally I agree with you. And it's not just teenagers, shorts/sweats/skirts for little little kids (toddlers) have stuff on the butts. Nothing offensive for little kids, just words like "cheer", but then by, say, age 6 there are clothes with "sassy". So I can see how it graduates up to "sexy". Ugh. Don't like it! This is one reason why so many public schools are going to uniforms.
But moreover, I think it's a parenting issue. I mean, I would NEVER let my daughters wear clothes with suggestive words on the tush. I will teach them it's disrespectful to themselves and other women. I will not use my money to buy that kind of clothes nor allow them to use their money on it. I'm the parent, they're the kid, they live in my house and there are some rules.

First of all sex sells, young girls like it because they think it makes them look sexy. Which leads to manufactures and designers selling it to make a fast buck off our children..... I don't think it's right that they do this, at the same time it's our job as parents to say no..... Take this example.... If your daughter wants to buy a low cut top, what is your fist response? NO! This is the same situation.... And if it's apart of an uniform, I would talk to the board of education on this one, and see a fast change with a quickness, especially if you have more than one parent involved on this matter.. Good Luck and Keep Fight for our kids to be kids as long as they can.....

I personally am not a fan of it, I think drawing attention to young girls bottoms is poor taste. There are many creeps out there, and beyond that, if a young girl is dressing that way, how will she dress when she's old enough to buy her own clothes?
But it is the going trend and socially acceptable, by the majority.
However I dont think you're cruel or misguided for not allowing your daughter(s) to wear things like that.

It's like when we were young and rolled the waistbands of our skirts up to make them shorter when our parents weren't around. It's how the young girls feel a bit daring.
It's probably harmless, but I feel its inappropriate. Clothing manufacturers, of course, caught on right away that it would appeal to the rebellious nature of pre-teens and teens.
I pointed out to my girls that if they draw a boy's attention to their butts or chests, they are going to have a hard time getting him to look any higher....

Not sure about the "harmless" part but I am sure that the manufactures were thinking that their clients would be teen girls who want the attention on boys.

I think that these shorts are cute. They may be marketing to underage girls--but is that so wrong? I think that as a parent YOU make the decisions of what is wrong and what is right for your child. Some people think that writing is nice, some people thinks it's tacky--and some find it threatening--and that is your choice.
