Theres a school disco CD which has 80's tunes on it. Theres a good selection, Queen, Wham etc. Might be worth a look. You could always try on Ebay and see if anyone is getting rid of any old now thats what I called music CDs. Get hold of a few and play them or maybe create a couple of disks by picking the best from them. At least doing it that way you'll get a good cross section and not just tracks you would have bought yourself. Don't just pick the list yourself though, very important.

That's a hard one. Um, Tom Petty is good, as are The Traveling Wilburys. The Steve Miller Band is also good. The Macarena is always a fun one. The Proclaimers, and maybe some ACDC (maybe). Pink Floyd, too, but then again, it depends on the crowd.
Hopefully this somewhat helped. I'm afraid I'm not good at choosing music like this for a wedding reception, as I've always planned on hiring a string quartet or the like and having more classical pieces.

Hi it depends on whether ou're having a DJ, band or iPod, we got married 6 weeks ago and did the music ourselves with an iPod, the best way to get a selection is to go and buy compilation albums of the latest chart music and another from the 90s, 80s, 70s and 60s that way you'll have plenty of selection, stick them all on your iPod and put it on randon play.
We had everything from Tom Jones to Pussycat dolls and Madonna to Justin Timberlake.

i use to dj weddings. i would start off while introducing the bridal party by playing rocky theme. gets people laughing.. to have fun you have to vary in music. some songs you must have.
k.c and sunshine band. (anything popular will do by them)
the electric slide
you gotta have the hokey pokey.
strip tease music for the removal of the garter
some commadores. celebration
slower stuff like lionel richie, some slow country will do too.
you can play about any dance music. they sell cd's with various party songs.. good to buy for partys and weddings.
some 70's funk and some 80's like atomic dog.
and for some rock sorry but you got to have ac/dc you shook me all night long...just get a feel to what the crowd is dancing to and youll know what to play. come prepared.
various artist dance music can be found at your local best buy or circuit city or and good music store. have fun..

Hiring a Deejay will be well worth the money, a good one can program the music for the crowd just by looking at the people. It will relieve you of the hassle of the music programming.
What is wrong with R&B? Some good stuff along with the drek, like all music styles. Lots of danceable stuff. Country too.

Why not ask each guest to name two tracks they would like to hear at your reception? That should give you a playlist that will be very personal and everyone will have something to keep them happy at some point in the evening.

Call the local oldies radio station and see if they can send you their most requested list, or most played list. That will be a good place to start!

A better idea would be to go to a DJ and ask them to look at their play lists, or even look at their collection and pick from there.
