I prefer to go in winter! If you like to surf then it's an absolute must to go in winter and to head up to the north shore to catch some of the best waves ever! Anyway, the weather in the winter is pretty moderate and hovers a degree or two above or below 80 on any given day. You can expect a little rain in the afternoon, but on the leeward side it will prob be dry most the time. When it's cold back in the states hawaii is always a good choice! Check out some of my other posts on Oahu for tons of things to do while your there! Click on my SN and you should find them pretty easily. Ok have a great trip.
Aloha

Christmas and New Years in Hawaii can be a lot of fun and unique. Palm trees instead of snow covered fir trees. Fireworks on New Years Eve versus Dick Clark. Sitting at a pool bar watching your home NFL team playing in a blizzard. Santa in a bathing suit. Humpback whales are in for whale watching tours. Winter break surf will be impressive. Outdoors 24 hours a day if you want. If it rains, it is still in the 70s.
I would do winter versus summer if for no other reason than the opportunity to get outside in a warm beautiful place in late December (not that skiing is a bad thing)

During the winter time, it rains alot, off & on. Still warm, tropical weather, just a little cooler. And by the way, Christmas in Hawaii does not feel like Christmas at all. It feels like "a summer vacation".

Winters in Hawaii are much nicer than on the mainland. The weather is still mild and not too cool. It may rain a bit more, but it's not cold like the winters on the mainland. Just bring a light jacket and layer up in the winter. You should have a lot of fun.

I live in Hawaii so speaking from personal experience, going in winter is best. That time of year is normally a little cooler, it's probably in the mid to high 60's and 70's.

Hawaii's temps only vary by a few degrees year round. Its basically always about 85 degrees there. I would do it at Christmas time...you'll be ready for some nice weather and thats when the whales are migrating, so you'll get to see that too.

Our weather variations are very slight through the year. It does get hot and humid during the summer with temps in the high 80's to low 90's, and cool and rainy in the winter with over night lows in the mid to upper 60's and day time high's in the low to mid 80's. June to December is Hurricane Season, though there hasn't been a direct hurricane hit in a while. I think it all depends what the weather is like where you live at the time of your trip, I guess. My sis lives in No. UT. She just makes growling noises when I complain how cold it is here in Dec. My son is in Jacksonville, FL. He hates the heat and humidity there and wishes he could spend his whole summer here.

Winter is actually a great time to travel since it will be less crowded than in the in summer months.
Since it's our winter, there is more chance for windy and rainy weather but you still should have nice enough weather to have a great vacation in Hawaii.
Happy travels!
