The 911 system is designed to detect your area when you dial the number. In most areas of the US, landlines and cellular phones will get you to the proper agency when you dial 911. Some areas still have problems with VOIP. If you live in one of those few areas where 911 does not get you to the correct emergency responders, you should become aware of this before an emergency and have the proper numbers on hand.
