Because they understand that they can make more money providing services and coming up with the moneymaking ideas; and the less-developed countries can make more money producing said goods than they can with subsistence level farming. Everybody wins.

I am!

Our business leaders are doing the outsourcing dogpile with little thought about long term implications. They are too blind to see. The government has been sold. They won't help. The rest of the world wants to keep sending their goods for sale to the US while gutting our ability to pay for it. This situation will achive a natural economic level somewhere. I just hope that it is not in a deep depression.

Oh yea, "buy American" won't help....at all. There are really no more "American" cars or other consumer goods. They are all built overseas. Actually the best American car seems to be a Nissan, Honda or Toyota. They are actually assembled here.

Because its not economical for the respective country?

I'm sorry but why should a company pay Joe $7.25 an hour when he can have Ramiro for only $5 a month?

Minimum wage is a large part of the problem as it disrupts the free markets.

Also the united states for the last decade has been moving more toward service instead of manufacturing.

Also specialization plays a large role.

They like their flags and yellow magnetic ribbons 'support etc' made in China because they're cheaper.

There are no good rubber monster toys manufactured in the US. Not much else, either.

Including healthy concern for what it means.

I'm pissed as hell about that. Walmart built an empire on "Made in the USA." And then once they had the market cornered, they shipped everything over to China in the biggest retail bait-and-switch in history. They're not the only one's of course, just the most recent and flagrent.

Why should anyone give a toss?

About the worst problem anyone could really have with it is the additional Carbon Dioxide produced by the shipping process.... but honestly I don't believe any more shipping is taking place than would be otherwise; there is just more on board.

So in short: Quitcherb!tchin.

Apathy, most likely.
We are concerned. Whenever we go to WallyWorld (walmart)
the game we play is to see who can find anything made in the U.S. that isn't made of plastic.
It really ticks us off.
We buy very little.

I am upset very much by this, and then add in that we are outsourcing (fancy word for 'giving away') our jobs... that is insane!

Check out Ron Paul
He understands and wants to scale back the government, which will bring us back! Government subsidizing and giving tax breaks to companies that give our jobs away and unfairly tax our home made stuff but give breaks to importers... it hurts us sooooo much. I can't stand WalMart... one of our biggest distributors of imports!!!!

The US seems to be able to make plenty of military hardware, make war, make poverty, make money, make mistakes, make up lies, make believe just about anything... But they used to make beaut cars, and were technological geniuses when the space program was funded more reasonably..

The US is now spending more than it ever has, but has less to show for it, besides a bigger war machine, thanks to the religious right...

You know it makes sense..!

The question is about cost-effectiveness. It is cheaper to produce items overseas. It also boosts international cooperation by creating economic dependence.

Most of the U.S. industry is based on services, not goods. It does not bother me too much, but I would have liked to see more products made in America, especially automobiles.

I *AM* concerned about it and the fact that we are outsourcing our jobs to other countries just so companies can save money and in turn takes the jobs away from Americans.
