"Thou shalt have no other gods before me"

That doesn't say I'm the ONLY God....and God doesn't say He's the only God just that he is the only living God(or something)...

So...could there have been other gods with God?

Not in REAL life.
ALL gods are imaginary. Nothing more.

There were other competing religions at the time. The bible, like most texts, shows an aversion to other religions. One story describes the destruction of a golden calf by Moses that was built by the Israelites, a poor example of other belief systems. Another describes a test of god, where people built statues to a different religion and shouted for that god to answer, but only the god of Abraham supposedly listened and set an altar on fire.

As all gods are fiction, all religions are kind of on the equal playing field of non-existence. From a purely humanistic standpoint, humanity has invented many gods alongside the god of Abraham, but most are mutually exclusive. Some religions, especially modern variants such as Wicca, is inclusive to many deities.

Really we need to understand what the Bible means here, `I am the Lord thy God and thou shall not have strange gods before Me` God is saying that man can misuse his gifts of intelligence to conjure up his own ideas of God and by doing so he makes material things equal to the One true God.
We see this phenonmen all down through mans history and today our false gods include money, power, sex, drugs and even man himself.
God made us to live in a union of love with Him and because of the fall of our first parents we have turned away from our original and proper state of being faithful to God and so we try to fill this inner yearning for God with materialism.
In short there are no other gods only what we have created in our minds.

The "God" Protestants believe in wasn't the first God to be worshipped. What about the Greeks or Romans? The Egyptains or the Mesopotamians? Religion is a very delicate subject, because new ones have been created over time. Which was the first religion? I don't know, but it wasn't Christianity.

well, lets break down the name of the Christian god;
YHVH
Yod= The genderless ultimate. The I AM.
Heh= the Feminine that gives it form
Vah= the Male aspect as birthed by the Feminine
Heh=The Female child of the union of the Masculine and Feminine and the continuation of creation.
Therefore YHVW is 2 parts Goddess, 1 part God and one part Genderless. So that's 4 Deities in one.
Elohim means Gods and Goddesses. I think the singular is Eloi (Jewish readers, correct me on this).
Let US create man in OUR image and OUR likeness.
Sounds like a Pantheon to me.
YHVH is the god of the Israelites, meaning other cultures had their own as well.

The Apostle Paul, at 1 Corinthians 8:5,6 said this "For even thought there are those who are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many gods and many lords, there is actually to us one God, the Father ....

So to answer your question there can be many things percieved as gods or considered to be gods. Many people view money as a god, or there own pleasure and desire as a god. Really whatever things we put first in our lives usually become a "god" to us.

The reality of God is a matter of faith. People of faith look at the marvelous design of everything in creation around them and see evidence of a creator. People who do not have that faith are willing to assign all that intricate amazing design to chance.

Soooooooooo...which god are you saying is the god that the other gods could be with? I mean like... which god clan does the god you are referring to belong?
Why would you refer to a god as he? Where does that come from? Seems weird that you would make a god have a certain gender, I mean it's a god... right?
Are not gods genderless? I mean... how would you ever know if a god has a penis or a vagina? Have you ever seen a gods penis or vagina?
It can't be because you read a bible or other book of ridiculous fables because those books are all fabricated by man, so how did your god become a man or a "He" which refers to a person?

you ought to read this book. it would seem that the biblical god did co-exist with other gods for some time and even he is made up of two different gods.

scripture says there is:

- no god beside Him (isa. 4:35)
- no god with Him - (deut 32:39)
- no god before or after Him (isa. 43:10)
- no other god but One (1 cor.8:4)

so if there are no other gods before, after, beside HIm & NO OTHER god but One....
then NO there are no other gods along with God.

this also means....
Jesus is not the 2nd person or diety in the Godhead. (like the trinity says)
Jesus did not become the 2nd person when He wrapped Himself in flesh & came to earth.
scripture ALWAYS speaks of the ONENESS of God ... not the threeness.

referring to Jesus Christ ... colossians 2:9 says...
"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

scripture says that the godhead (father, son & Holy Spirit) dwells within the body of Jesus Christ!

if you believe in the trinity, you CANNOT believe in colossians 2:9.
if any part of the Bible is false, it would all have to be false.
there is no contradiction in God's Word.... only those who misinterpret ... those who don't understand.

it's high time that all should "come to the knowledge of the truth". ... & let that Truth make us free.

One can choose to believe anything one wants. Whether that is the existence of only one god, the superiority of one god over others, the existence of multiple gods, the existence of NO god whatsoever. Faith is only a belief system, therefor one can believe anything they choose... Find what works best for you.
