Unfortunately all the time. I am a sinner and I do sin. I am also a sheep and tend to wander but God is gracious and as the Good Shepherd, He keeps an eye out for me and is there when I realize my error and come home. Here is an example:

My husband and I had everything we wated. A nice place to live, two cars, could travel when we wanted too, always had food on the table, bills were paid and the kids were taken care of. I tithed every paycheck without fail. Until...........

One day we wanted money for something and was just short the amount we were to tithe. I wrote out the check and put it in the drawer to "make up next week." Well, pretty soon there were about 20 checks in the drawer because when next week came there wasn't enough money.

We began to lose things. The cars, the house, every thing. We had to sell EVERYTHING even our dishes just to eat. All our furniture, stereo, tv's, cd's, I mean everything. And to top it off we had to move back in with my mother.

I want to say here that my hubby was working in the same place and making the same amount of money we had before. We had money before but all the sudden we didn't. Considience? I think not.

Anyway we moved back in with my mother. Spent two years angry as heck at God for all this. Never went to church just fought with Him and each other. Nothing in our life changed. My hubby even lost his job and couldn't keep another.

One day I had enough. I decided that no matter what I was going to trust God and tithe every penny we made. When my hubby had to donate plasma to get dinner on the table I would tithe the 2 dollars. I found a quarter on the street and it went in the bucket.

Things started coming back. We started getting things. Someone gave us a perfectly good, well better than good, an awesome stereo system for no reason. We started being able to pay bills, get the kids what they needed, etc. Slowly but surely our lives are begining to get on track once more. And we make less now then we did then.

God is good all the time! And all the time God is good! He is a keeper of promises and if you are faithful to Him then He will be faithful to you! Praise Him!

Of course, up and down, inside and outside, back and forth, on and off and so on.

It's a natural course - believe, disbelieve, question and accept, go away and return.

I like to light candles on Shabbat and pray to G-d and then I wonder if there is a G-d and will he answer my prayer.

Every time i thought of this kind of situation i always would think of it in terms of backsliding and having one of those prodigal son experiences. But over the years I have realized something regarding wandering away. This wandering can be a very inward subjective thing that takes place each day in a christian's life. Do I always abide in the Lord? Do I always keep in fellowship with Him? Is my mind always according to the Spirit or is it according to the Flesh? Our mind is the wandering sheep of our being. Day by day it can be set according to the flesh or according to the spirit. There is a good verse in Romans 8:6 which says " for the mind set on the flesh is death but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace"
Truly...the Lord as our Good Shepherd indwells us in our spirits.. Today our spirit is indwelt by Him and is His habitation. But do we always stay with the Lord throughout our day? No.. not always... we are pressed on every side...easily distracted and drawn away.. our hearts given to be occupied with other things, persons, matters that draws our minds away from the Lord. Our mind is the leading part of our soul and it is the mind that is renewed and brings about our transformation as Christians. May the Lord guard our minds.. guard our thoughts... call us day by day whenever we stray like a sheep and be drawn back to the Spirit, back to the Good SHepherd Who is so near and dear to us... The flesh profits nothing, in our spirit IS CHRIST! Hallelujah! This Christ is our Living and Still Waters... He is our Green pasture land.... He restores and renews us as we turn back to Him. May our ears be anointed to hear His voice as he calls us back from wherever we find ourselves wandering. SO yes brother.. i cannot tell you how many times i wander away from our Lord, BUT He is ever so faithful to look out for us not just as the Good Shepherd walking ahead of us but as the Bishop and Overseer of our souls, scanning the inward and outward situations of our being to lead us back to Himself where there is Life and Peace to be had.. Praise His name forever!

Keep Abiding brother
